I made 50 points profit (only £2 stakes on each) first month. After 2 months I was back even. I was covering 18 races a day, getting around 30 horses a day matched.Thats 1,800 bets in 2 months to still be even.So then the tweaks started. That was 2 yrs ago.Still tweaking to this day lol.

Yes, that sounds around what I'm up to, in terms of stats. I was laying for many years , off and on, without much success and wondering why it was. Then I realized how much COMMISSION was being deducted from winnings. It really kills any profits. I was (at best) around 5%-10% profitability, but after comm, that was wiped out. Then a bad run would wipe me out. I adjusted my initial book down by 5% and I saw over a few thousand bets how the profitability rose by a corresponding amount. I really is like a casino and you need to play it for a long time with a statistical advantage, but it can be done.

Are you laying to fixed backers stake,or fixed liability on each bet matched ? I played to fixed backers stake, which meant the bigger odds winners hurt me more.

I lay to a fixed payout, not to backer's stake. The reason is that I can then lay outsiders without getting killed. Question: After you got matched on a horse, what did you do? Continue to lay it at lower odds?

Ahah! From my stats, the profits come from the STEAMERS , not the floaters or drifters. You simply have to take them on (and get pounded some times). It pays in the long run.

The early days I'd just leave them.Later on I'd lay again, and again, and again.I had an Irish horse at Wolves (last race on Friday night) take a whole weeks profit once, backed from 8/1 into 5/2,won a short head.Maybe your'e right about overstaking lol

enter the market in morning and leave pre-off.................in @15 out @9.....only need 3 races a day.........all green in two and it's wages time........no need to play every race, study ONE race for an hour, formbook, own ratings, own book, price history, market analysis = OWN OPINION ..........back high lay low, couldn't be simpler.......take advantage in the races the bookies don't spend much time on.........forget the big meetings, AW C5 hcaps suit me fine.........remember the punters they like form, hence they back the same ones every time..........its like reading a book, but then again watching these markets is all I've done for the last year and I mean ALL.............no fun in it but I prefer money these days to fun

Yes, BTO is a MAN among MEN. I think he has a lot right. He didn't mention much about bank management and increasing stakes, which is also key to increasing the bank week after week.

I. Quit...welcome! Although you aren't exactly a bookie (but, then again, niether are we) you also fleece the over-enthusiastic backers in the same way as we do. I imagine you have less volatility each week than a straight backer...and we pay higher commssion, but I imagine that the PC will be a factor for you, but not much for us. I'll have to see when/if Iget to that stage!

Although we seem to be laying the same horses,we seem to be getting matched at different prices. Maybe one of us is getting a better deal than the others ?

it's been fun chatting with you fellows. I'm sorry the results couldn't have been better, but what can you do, eh? I'll be signing off now, and starting a new thread tomorrow with my April results and starting a new one for May. Good luck in the 1905 Chep. I am unmatched across the board.

only the 5th time in nearly 400 races i've got 3 beat and won the huge sum of £5.70
very timely :) Was disillusioned for most of the day with the whole thing, a bit grim when you know you are going til gone 6 but by 3pm the best hope is to avoid the worst day ever. Was doubting wether it was worthwhile as if my average profit per race drops too much then it will just take too long to build the bank.
Very Pleasing recovery, finished only -£1.84

Hello lads, Good to see the fellow bookies grinding away to steady profits. There's been some very tough times, and some real good times, but in the end, it always seems to return to the mean profit. As you know I always lay to ****ed payout amount.
Markets can change, and it's important to keep accurate records and monitor any significant shifts over a significant sample size.
But it's all been going like clockwork for the last two and a half years.

Hi Beat, Nice to hear from you again. I wanted to ask you about other sports beyond horseracing. Have you been making books on greyhounds, football or other sports? I haven't had much success on greyhounds and I am puzzled about it. I mean, what would the difference be between a book on the dogs and a book on the horses? Smaller field size? Lower liquidity? ANy thoughts about how that would affect my results?
