My internet connection (Virgin) is ok most of the time, but every now and then slows to a crawl and I have to reset the router (which restores normal speed).

The problem can't be the router, because I've tried two different ones and I get exactly the same problem.

Anyone got any idea what the problem might be?

Probably the provider having a blip. On cable I can see the lights on cable providers box reset a couple of times a day

If you have the Webstar cable modem on Virgin, try going to here http://192.168.100.1 and click on "Log". You might see something there.

Brendan, you could try http://192.168.1.1 to get into your router.

I use Virgin too (50MB, North London). That never happens to me though.

I do have another problem, that often around 10-11pm the internet goes off completely, and I also have to reset the router. Seems to happen around this time a couple of times a week. Also had it on Saturday afternoon, which was unusual, and very annoying. Sorted after a couple of minutes though.
