Independent Bookmakers & The Gambling Commission

They are definitely on the side of the big4, trying to squeeze the Independent out the game with their astronomical costs and mind boggingly stupid legislation.

We've had shops for 40 odd years and never once had any trouble with under age gamblers/money laundering/social responsibility/or had posters all over the place begging people who don't need it to seek help/ yet now were paying £1700 to a bunch of thieves who think a round robin is a over fed wild bir, with a red belly

The industry was always self policing, why the ** would you want to have some 16 year old scroat in your shop or some pi ss can who want 5 pence reverse forecast on a race that's already gone.

By the way to the Gamb Comm, a four year old nipper aint allowed in, just in case it ends up a prob gambler in later life.

Exactly I have a retired copper who brings his young grandson in, he says he will stand up in court and defend me if it ever came to that.

Telephone bets are the future. Betting shops will only have fobt,s in them. Doin this ummer racing then its just phone bets for me, so any other indys on here fancy setting accounts up with me and vice versa then get in touch. Sure if we use each other to hedge etc we could make it pay without all the overheads.

Financially, they have killed the small/1 man indie in one fell swoop - and it was definitely pre meditated. The big 3 have been protected and given bigger market share by the GC - no wonder they're not complaining about them.

The local councils that used to charge £25 for 3 years for a premisis licence, suddenly charge £600 a year! - so what do they do 7200% differently now?

I really think that the big 3 are really behind this utterly unneeded quango - cos they can foresee the end game

I have a review shortly and have been informed that if I want to appeal any decision it will cost me 9.5k to lodge. Tell me thats fair !!

The goverment needed some more tax revenues that would not hit the ballot box. Who cares about how much bookies wil pay anyway.

The result lets have some big casinos we can screw em for loads of tax and nobody cares. Thats the goverment advisers thought.

Then some bright spark says that all sorts of funny people who run these place from across the pond want sorting out first,they all have black crombie coats and carry violin cases.

Then bright spark number two suggest a Gambling Commission to vet
them who want to run these places.

Then bright spark number three suggested that lets put all bookmakers through this system hence the formation of the GC.

What has happened all books pay a 3000 percent more than they did pre GC. Gordon said no we are not having any big casinos.

So we are lumbered with a dirty great quango that sole purpose is to make sure we put our under 18 signs up and do not take a bet off any body who cannot afford it.

What was wrong with the old magistrates system... nothing.

With the country in the mire as it is I would have thought it would be sensible to dispand this expensive excersise . It dont do nowt.

your history is spot on, but now they've created this monster, they wont be able to quash it quickly - it will last decades - much to the delight of the big 3 as they reap the extra market share!

Jersey has set up a gambling commission costing a MILLION pounds every 3 years, to be paid for by the local gambling establishments, ie 29 bookies,a few bingo clubs, local lotteries,no casino, WHY.
To control egaming that they think will come to Jersey after they have all set up elsewhere, the bookies are2/3 controlled by stock exchange companies ie lads,hills,the rest indies.What trouble have they been NONE.
How will they earn their exhorbitant money ???
