boxingthefox, BT told me it is all done by comuter. These filth will stop at nothing to find a way around the Offcom rules.I am going to say that I desperately need their help the next time and tell them I'm in 80K of debt and desperately need their help. (I'll be an artitecht on 100K per annum and my wife has left me in this debt that has now came to the surface!!!!) Two can play at the same game....

Stewarty,
Do they ask you to press 2 ?. If so ,be careful. I remember a similar scam was on the go last year where pressing the requested number resulted in an exorbitant phone bill. The whole point of that scam was to dupe the caller into pressing the number.I think people ended up with a £50 or more charge. |

Night Sight, mine say press 2, never have, thanks for the "heads up".

I have had similar stuff to this, really annoying, sterwarty.
I ended up subscribing to two bt services; 1) Choose to refuse, allows you to block nuisance numbers 2) Annonymous call reject Both options prevent your phone from ringing but have a downside of other people not being able to get through, in my case the misus from work as it goes through switchboard with no number! I have recently removed both as I am hoping they have given up on my number! |

If you have the choose to refuse and someone goes through a switch, tell them to dial 1470 before your number. Will display the switch number

I was assured by BT that by pressing 2 this does not cost me anything. I checked by phoning 0800 44 33 11 and you can get the exact amount that you owe BT on all calls made before 10pm the previous night.
Night Sight, that particular scam you speak about is usually the one that tells you you have won a prize. They way around that is to get BT to bar your number being able to phone premium numbers (usually starting with a 09 number.....like the tipster rip off). The strange thing with financial solutions is that they ask how they may be of help. When I tell them that they phoned me, they put the phone down! Next time I will lead them a merry dance. PS. BT say that they target certain areas for a fortnight only. This is not true, but they are trying to police these scamsters. (apparently) |

I would just like to add that if some of you are fed up of phoning 0870, 0844,0845, and the famous 0871 numbers (10p per minute) There is a good chance you will find a Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Number at www.saynoto0870.com.
ie. Betfair. 0208 8348060 |
