I really like punt.com, deals with some of the psychological aspects of gambling very well.

The Sports Trader also an interesting read, though I'm baffled by his staking methods, lays out four figures one time, then another day will try to win 10 or under on a race!

Any other ones worth a look?

hmm, how can you be a "professional" trader when you're only making averaging a couple of hundred quid profit a month?

Presumably you have other income strems too?

Hi Soccergeez,

Yep, I'm in full time employment but I think you're missing the point when I describe myself as professional.

To me you don't need to put in 40 hours a week - it's more about your outlook and the way you manage yourself.

I'm only making 400 - 500 a month but for a part time income it's not bad and I only started with a bank of 250.

If you want to call yourself "pro" then that means gambling is your main income.

Winning a couple of hundred a month is not "pro" it's I wanna be.

agreed, 500 a month max is a hobby that pays well.

Or "semi professional" would be a better description.

Fair enough, I'm not knocking what your are doing just pointing out that unless gambling is your only source of income you are not a "pro" in the true sense of the word.

Best of luck for the future anyway :)

does that mean a professional footballer or a manager who makes money on the side from media work is not a pro then?

This is simply coming down to different interpretations of the word "professional"

In terms of the literal interpretation, Mark's not doing this professionally (to earn his living) as you can't live off 500 a month.

To use a football analogy, he's a semi pro, playing in the Vauxhall Conference whilst supplementing these gains with a day job (or is it the other way round?!)

I think Mark is using the term "professional" in terms of approach, in terms of how you do something, ie doing a something in a professional manner using a skillset.

cheers deeper in debt and hobbi, glad you like my blog. I also enjoy Mark's blog. I don't mind the use of the word professional, yeah it's down to interpretation etc. but I think he's doing it in a fairly professional manner so it doesn't really matter. I use the professional word in the true sense of the word though, this is my sole income. plenty of people reading today it seems.

thankyou aziraphale. :-) Most blogs are read by one person - the author - so nice to know someone takes the time to stop by and have a look.

As for the original question I keep a list of other betting (non poker) blogs on the site. You can find them here. Some goods ones in there, including those already mentioned...

you can't live off 500 a month.

doddle if you just rent a room (or live with someone else who contributes towards rent) in most parts of the country.

my two cents on this thread.

bftrader is the best blog I've found, but mark's blog is worth a read and I keep an eye on it.

when people ask me what I do, i say I'm a semi-pro trader. I wouldn't call myself a pro till I was consistently making more than I need to live off.
