Digital switchover has just taken place in my mother's hometown in S Wales, and her admittedly old VCR is seemingly unable to pick up the digital stations, although it can still view and record the remaining analogue signal from HTV West.

For the switchover process we simply purchased one of the bogstandard 40 quid Freeview boxes that allows her to view a bundle of digital stations but not record any of them .

Does anyone know whether a more modern VCR (maybe manufactured since 2000 ?) would be able to connect OK to the Freeview box and view/record programmes accordingly?

Cheers if you can advise.

alun, as far as I'm aware, recording freefiew is the same as recording sky on a vcr, which I do. I think once it's tuned in it records on the AV channel, mine being number 7 on the TV screen when I record. No expert, but hope this helps.

Thanks lads, I'll check it out. My own VCR can record Sky Digital and Freeview OK.

Problem with freeview is you can only record 1 channel during the night, whereas, at the moment, (depending where you're based) you can record 6 different channels during the night on analogue.
