THANK YOU GUYS BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE VIRUS STOPS ME RUNNING THE ANTI-VIRUS - I CAN DOWNLOAD IT BUT NOT RUN IT(W32BLASTERWORM CITED). SORRY ABOUT CAP LOCKS.

So I have a pop up directing me to SECURITY CENTRAL or XPANTIMALWARE. Does anybody know, please, whether either or both of these are in fact the virus? It's not so much the $50 purchase price as the fact that I would have to transmit bank card details.

PS the virus stops a system restore or the removal of the SECURITY CENTRAL programme through add/remove programmes in the control panel, so, I'm in a pickle and would greatly appreciate any direction.
Report rod hull April 4, 2010 4:19 PM BST
google each of them in speech marks and you will find out what one is the virus. in future, dont open emails you dont recognise and dont click random links.

also get some anti virus to stop it in the first place.

Thank you very much rod hull - they are both rogue sites, so if anybody else gets infected DON'T BUY it.

All I have to do now is get rid of them - I'll let you know how that goes.

Vicious trojan, won't let user access any of the routes to get rid.All the remedies on youtube are blocked now. Will have to get help.

Anyone who gets infected with XP SECURITY CENTRE , for goodness'sake don't give them your card details!!!

Started computer in safe mode and managed a system restore on casemoney's say so. Honestly, there is a lot of negativity on the forum but getting help like that is just brilliant, I can't thank you enough. Hope no-one gives these filchers their card number and their money ever because, if MORE ON can**it, anybody can!

Caught this today - the Vista XP Malware 2010. Basically tried to fool me into thinking I had loads of viruses by running fake scanning software. Really nasty little bugger which tried to feck up my registry and all sorts. More on - check through this link and run the Malaarebytes Anti Malware check to clean up any residue or it could reappear in a day or twos time. I ran it through chrome as the virus blocks IE attempts to clean it up

HTH

As Innocent Bystander says malwarebytes is brilliant. IT is the best (imo) malware removal tool out there - and its free.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

If you already have a rogue virus checker you may need to change the file name before installing, as some rogues block installation.

I hate these rogue checkers with a vengance, even though I have made money removing them from peoples machines.

Switch to Firefox, IE is notorious for letting these bas**rds through.

I have a very slow running laptop as well so I am grateful for this advice. However, having tried some of these suggestions, is it not the case that the scan is free but ultimately they still expect you to pay to remove the infections identified.
Report Hayden April 5, 2010 4:07 AM BST
Which one vagabond ? the one I posted is totally free for both prevention and removal , if your PC is running slow also check you haven't got unnecessary programmes running on start-up , that can make a big difference if you've never checked it from new.
Report Little Des April 5, 2010 5:28 AM BST
FREE scans ??

If you work on the premise that you can't afford anything
that is FREE, then you won't go far wrong.

You must be kidding mate. Have you seen it recently? Seems to have gotten 10 times worse in the last couple of months - like an extension of the kickball forum there now. Not posting on there has really increased my profits, long may it continue :0
