I've started getting this popup today which basically slows my computer down massively.
Apparently it's a legit. Microsoft popup but does anyone know how on Earth to get rid of it?
If I try to disable it, it tells me it'll come back on restart. Anyone know the implications of selecting a browser from their list?

ignore it if youre happy with explorer or whatever you use.

Cheers. Ignoring it isn't really an option as it makes you choose one, so I just selected one that I already use and it may have done the trick.
Pretty ridiculous ruling that everyone has to have their computer knackered up as a punishment. Thanks for the reply :) |

I have both IE and Firefox installed on my computers and use one or the other depending on the site.
I have used Firefox exclusively for Betfair for at least three years now. The Betfair site just seems to respond a bit quicker with Firefox. Still use IE for some others including a few bookmaker accts. |

This is now getting ridiculous.
It doesn't matter what you download, it still pops up on every startup. A quick google shows I'm going to have to edit the registry to get rid of it. It adds over a minute to my startup time. While I'm probably capable of following a set of instructions, I'm not delighted about the fact I'm going to need to do this given my general level of computer incompetence. |

I've used hijackthis before fwiw.
Seems the best way to remove this is going to be to do a system restore and then block the update, as if you remove it from the registry they bundle it back into the updates anyway. |

Ok, I suspect I won't be the only one with this mess over the next couple of months as it turns out they will be slowly giving people this "update" from now until May.
The politics of the situation seems to be that they were forced to do this by the EU, so they've made it as annoying as possible so everyone gets angry at the EU. Didn't work for me, I just think they're morons for doing it this way. anyway, here's how I ended up fixing it, after much googling. 1. Click the windows icon in the circle at the bottom left of the screen 2. Type "command prompt" (without the quotes) in the search box that comes up 3. Click "Allow" 4. Type "msconfig" into the black box 5. Click the"startup" tab on the new menu that opens 6. Hover over each line in "Command" until you find the one that ends in "browserchoice.exe" 7. Untick the box on the left so "browserchoice.exe" is the only one without a tick 8. Click "Apply" 9. Click "Okay" In what may or may not have been a remarkable coincidence, I couldn't get online at all after this until I restarted my router. The crap is now gone when I restart though, which anyone who has found this thread because they're getting the same problem will be glad to be rid of. Thanks for the others who replied too, you helped me speed up the process of doing this. |

Had the same thing. Asks you to chose a browser from the list to install yet I've already installed most of them.
I deleted it from my desktop and haven't heard anything else yet. |

Use IE tab in forefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419 Will render websites in IE but using a firefoxtab. |
