that Betfair went through all the outright footie league markets and removed all those teams that mathematically can't win?

It's not that simple. I suppose the fact that the FA can deduct points for various misdemeanours mean (eg. Portsmouth deducted 9 pts) mean that mathematically anyone can still win.

That's like saying we can't accept Cameron as the new Prime Minister until we've checked he's not possessed by evil spirits.

Common sense please

yeah u r right clydebank , but at least u can take advantage of it.
For example somebody wants to back Everton at the handicap win-market even though they can only reach 93 points(Birmingham has 94).
So if u have money available.....

It serves 5 purposes..

1. It frees up cash and liabilities

2. It simplifies the market

3. It makes the available to back % accurate (why look less competitive than it actually is)

4. Football anoraks can see at a glance who still has a mathematical chance

5. It's more professional

And it can improve your mood. As a Stevenage supporter I want to see the teams disappear week by week as they drop out of contention.

I can come come out of the closet now lol :)

I'm not saying they shouldn't settle the losers , but if they do it may create trouble for some customers due to the retained commission thing.

Partially settled markets are a nightmare. The fewer the better.

It's just laziness. They don't leave Man Utd and Liverpool in the FACup Winners market because it might upset some paying premium charges calculating or someone who's got a crazy phobia about retained commission. Hang on what if the 4 teams left in it are all thrown out?
