I already have telephone and broadband from Virgin, and I'm thinking of getting their tv package as well (already have Sky - complete package). It's obviously cheaper to go with the bundled Virgin package but I am wondering about the compariosn of the two tv services.

Do Virgin have a red button option, i.e. for golf, snooker, NFL, etc, behind the red button for BBC/Sky channels?

Although I'm not a fast picture merchant I am wondering about the speed difference of receiving pictures from Sky and Virgin. I play on a lot of in-play markets and I'm often picked off myself by fast picture merchants. If Virgin was just a second slower than Sky that would be enough for me not to switch to Virgin. Does anyone know anything about this?

Also, what other advantages/disadvantages do the Sky and Virgin packages have over each other?

Thanks for any replies.

/Dave

im on virgin red button is still there all tho takes a few seconds longer to connect dont know why, virgin more stable weather etc hardly eva affect it, as for fast pics depends which channel and what is on. on one occasion i was several seconds ahead of a friend watching same football match on sky then another time i was seconds behind him, v + better than sky now imo as can record more channels and menu is just as good as sky's new version

Virgin is 1-2 secs behind sky on sports channels (incidentally it used to be 1-2 secs ahead until a couple of years ago).

I have both but much prefer virgin for normal tv viewing and the V+ box is great, especially being able to record 2 progs and watch another. Also has good on demand content which is free depending on which package you have.

Downsides - as previously mentioned, no red button on Sky Sports. Also channel changing can be a bit slow sometimes.

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I'll be sticking with Sky. Though I like the sound of both Sky and Virgin. Is that tricky to set up Gin (connections to the tv)?

Virgin deffo has a delay of about 3 seconds over Sky as I noticed the other day when listening to someone's sky down the phone line. Also sky sports hd isn't available on virgin likewise ss red button. However, think everything else about virgin is better with ondemand etc.

Dave

Its a piece of cake to put both through your TV - as long as your TV has a couple of inputs (Scart HDMI etc).

Meant to say with the top package with virgin you get ESPN included so that's a perk.

the text features on virgin are utter gash.....but people tend to use internet instead.

Virgin no Spainsh football via red button and no interactive choice in the group stages of CL

If you want decent text features and you got virgin.....you could always hook up a 10 quid freeview box and use that.

oh yeah Virgin dont have those girls on the phone channels

Reading all that Sky does sound better but having used both i'd say Virgin was better not sure why but just think it is.

What about support and problem solving, NTL just change everything until they run out of options and then do something technical.
