Latvia will put IP ban to those sites who dont buy a license to operate in Latvia. Dunno whether it means restriction to hold an account on betfair.

Don`t know about you but the fact that the two biggest gambling countries in the world are shut out of this game really flujs me off. New Jersey offers a little hope I spose..

Albania is now a NO.I was there yesterday, a message comes up in Albanian with a date from last year so i pressume it's a recent thing. Everywhere else in the Balkans is fine though.

Italy update: BF haven't accepted new players for ages but they kept the ones already registereds so far. So there are probably thousands of italians still operating, as of today. Heard somewhere they are the 2nd or 3rd on BF in terms of matched money.
No more, monday 7th april all those accounts will be terminated and forced to operate on the new italian site, launching the same date.
There won't be any liquidity sharing between the italian platform and the international one so if you'll notice lesser liquidity, that's why.

Off to Germany next week and called Betfair customer service to check whether the Exchange was allowed.
Was informed the Exchange is definitely a no in Germany and any customer found using the Exchange in a banned country would have their accounts closed.
Lucky I checked with Betfair as I could have easily went to Germany and phoned the London office to place a bet on the Exchange without any problems. This would be an unintentional breaking of the law in Germany committing a criminal offence.
About time Betfair provided a proper service to customers with a published list of those countries where the Exchange is available ensuring that it is promptly updated with changes.

so is germany the only country that has a law in place where it is illegal to access a non registered bookie?
as far as im aware these companies may face restricitions but there are very few countries who have actually made laws making it a criminal offence to access such sites.
some countries have other things which you may get done on other things like avoiding tax.... but as far as im aware germany must be the only one which has a law on individuals????

if your not sure your account will get banned use a bookie you dont want to use again.
get a vpn. log in from a "banned destination". then log in from your normal ip address..
you will see they have taken the correct steps.
if you have an address from a abanned country your account will be closed. if you try to use a bank card from a banned country you wont be allowed to.
all bookmakers who dont have agreements in countries who insist on them cant do **** all if bokies and exchanges follow this.
so if you use a vpn abroad how the hell is that country goign to find out?
are betfair and co realy goign to shoot themselves in the foot. if an indvidual gets "found out" betfair and co wont get done.
tbh most countries wont give a sh1t. most wont even give a sh1t unless you have tax to pay....then you may have a big problem lol

Surprised if this hasn't been mentioned but while I've been unable to place bets through WiFi in France on a few occasions recently, Spain and the US (wife likes to spend my winnings), I've never had a problem getting on to Betfair through the app on my phone, as long as I've paid for data abroad. I'm assuming, if it's been thought about at all by the authorities, that it's counted as betting at home, as effectively using a domestic data connection, just one hosted abroad.

bf can't determine the location of a phone in the way they can with an IP address.
Some governments block bf (at least from time to time like Indonesia) but other countries are blocked by bf itself. Which is why you can access from a phone.

Slogger, if you want to avoid data charges, try using a VPN hosted in the UK. I've heard bf blocks some VPNs, but not others.
When bf Australia was down for several days, I could access bf UK using a VPN, but got kicked off when I logged in. I assume because I'm an Australian account, which won't apply to you.

I notice that Singapore is down as a 'YES' Try as I might, using my laptop in my Singapore hotel, trying to log into Betfair I got a message saying that I was not allowed access to that website. Clearly I was doing something wrong.

Slovakia appears to have become a NO within the last 2 or 3 weeks. You now get re-directed to a web-page telling you about the Finance Act's restrictions on betting sites.

If USA blocks Betfair access and it is against their law, so be it. Pesumably they would not allow anyone there to ring up Ladbrokes in UK to strike a bet either?

Is there any chance Spain will be a 'Yes' in the near future?
I´m moving out there next month with my gf.
I know they do have Betfair (a Spanish version it seemed) but very poor liquidity.
