how do bookies come up with initial odds on football matches.
like for example could someone price up Arsenal v Man U say on current form.
and further say united went 1 up after 16 mins how much of a change would there be in the odds?

The bookies ring the managers of both teams and ask them to express the chance of the home team as a percentage. These figures are summed then divided by the cube root of eight to give a percentage which is then divided into a hundred to get the decimal price. Finally, the previous answer is reduced by one and the overround discount is applied to give the price published in the Racing Post.

If teams considered equal than its more or less 6/5 home 11/4 away and just work from there depending what you think is the difference between them
