All,

Fielding ideas on what makes a successful Betfair punter - whether that be through discipline techniques or certain API or other programs used leading to greater success. I'm a recreational punter & bet pretty much WHOLLY with Betfair.............................

I realise there is no "secret" to successful punting :)
but thought this could generate some interesting discussion!

All comments appreciated.

Many thanks.

Taking a profit whenever possible without waiting for more! Easy!

only bet when the odds are in your favour is the best way of winning money.

other rules:
level staking
never lose more than 10% of your weekly income each week
never bet when under influence of booze, illegal drugs or solvents
never bet straight after a huge argument wiuth your partner

Never bet if you are as green as grass.

One of the worst pieces of advice u will ever receive.

If u perceive value - then bet.

but taking the quickest possible profit is not the way forward

surely judge each particular bet on it's own merits. some have more to run than others

A successful punter won't use Betfair exclusively!

Discipline prevents you losing but isn't enough to win by itself. The biggest part of discipline is handling losses.

The answer is to 'find an edge'.

Martingale.

1) Set up a betting bank and keep it seperatley from all other funds.

2) Keep a record of all bets.

3) Look for value.

4) Put in the hard work studying form.

5) Have a staking plan.

6) Remain focused when on a losing run. Accept losses as part of the job and stick to your methods through the rough patches.

If you follow the above you will give yourself a chance of winning long term.

What Trademate says is correct, if you don't already know it you are as green as grass.

Whats good advice for one person is bad advice for another.

My advice is to know your own stregths and weaknesses and plan a strategy/bet accordingly.

Have a strategy; have a willingness to test it over a lengthy period; keep copious records and stats; use the information to assess when you do and do not have value.

If value is not there, keep your powder dry.

DO be ambitious, but DON'T be greedy.

for me the best thing i ever did was to stop having those stupid so called fun bets when i never really fancied anything in the race its so easy to just have a few quid here and there just because you want a bet but it mounts up and before you know where you are your behind study the racing and only have a bet when you really think you got a chance of making it pay
