Anybody know of a good trading book or mail order course? Betfair trading, not stock exchange.

I don't mean all that psychobabble stuff about "know yourself" and that, I mean simple ideas for deciding when to get in and get out of a market and which direction to select, which markets to trade, etc.

Why would you need a book when there is a wealth of expertise here? All you need to do is suss out who actually talks sense and who does not.

Start by looking at posts by Lori, buzzer and betfairy and one others whose names escape me for the moment.

"I don't mean all that psychobabble stuff about "know yourself"..."

Took me 12 years of gambling to realise the significance and relevance of all that psychobabble stuff.

I'd heard about it a few times over those 12 years and I was like WTF?.. What has that got to do with making a bet ?

But it does, and when you 'see it' and only then, can you start using your own strengths and avoiding your own weaknesses, Stepping back from 'the bet' and looking at 'the game'.

Blah blah blah....

It really does have relevance to being a winner.

Are we in the process of making an ebook here? If so, perhaps we should copyright it.

If you really want to be a winner, and I mean really, truely madly, deeply..... Then at some stage you are just going to have to accept you are not 'Perfect'. Everyone, including yourself has some personality disorders/imperfections....
And once you accept that, you can start honestly examining yourself(1*) for those imperfections, you can start looking for them cropping up and influencing some of your bets. Whilst doing this you'll also start noticing some of your strengths.
After some time you'll have properly identified repeat situations where you're getting it in good, and getting it in bad.
Identifying these will help your decisions when the same situations come up again.

Thats the 'in a nut shell' pyschobabble stuff, takes a bit of time to put it into practice though.

Mad ain't it?, who'd have thought 'knowing yourself' had anything to do with winning a bet ?

I didn't.

(1*) Unless one of your major imperfections is not being honest with yourself, in which case there is very little chance you will ever become a long term winner.

Chapter 1 of betfairys book deals with taking losses to learn. A Chapter with which I wholly agree.

Absolutely.... Don't be afraid to pay for your education

Just accept that this kind of knowledge is going to cost you some money, and make sure you're paying attention when you're paying for it, and try a get it as cheaply as you can.

There's a brand new game in town, lots of action and seemingly lots of fish.

An average gambler will look at the game and initially think "How can I win at this game?"

Some of the shrewder gamblers will be initialy thinking "How can I learn to win at this game?"

trading is like betting big-odds on shots all day long

if you have good sporting knowledge you don't need to go down the trading route

trading is for non-sports types who like to take big risks with no value at all because a graph told them to

would you like to take 1/7 on a price going north or south? nah

I wasted alot of time trading. I made money but lost it as I'm compulsive gambler. If you have good knowledge you can certainly find better-looking 1/7 shots out there if you get the form book out. The only good thing I learnt whilst trading is how the markets react

It is still in print. It is a gem though. Chapter 9 is the one to focus on.
