A question for New Zealanders:
What football coverage do you get in NZ, and do you know the latency of those pictures (if any)?

Can't answer your question directly as I don't live in NZ, but I have visited many times and the pay TV is Sky and Sky Sport would televise some football. This link might help.

Just to add to that, if the coverage says "live", then it will have only the usual few seconds of delay you would have from any "live" transmission anywhere in the world.

Thanks shiraz. I shall do some more digging.

Well I live here, and can say football coverage is good now compared what we are use to 5 years ago, but nothing like in Europe.

I am watching Arsenal vs Villa now. Basically you'll get only the games that will show on sky channel schedule, only premeirship games in England, and usually the better teams, also ECL games, back to back if the schedule allows it, ESPN have a lot of the Italian and Spanish games here.

The delay is same as normal I guess, we are a developed country :-)

Can anyone else confirm this? The delay in the UK for Sky matches is around 4 seconds. Would that be the case for the Pacific region broadcasts (on the Optus satellite)?

Many thanks to shiraz and c0rbchenk0 for your replies so far. As you can tell, I am considering emigration but want to get this issue clarified in my own mind first :)

Betfairy, it might just be worth contacting the channel suppliers direct and asking for the exact delay in pictures. Somebody in their technical support team should be able to provide those details.

Anywhere in particular Betfairy? The Sothern Island is particurlarly more impressive than the North for Scenery, trips, things to do etc. Christchurch also has a very colonial feel to it and was a really nice place.

Was looking at Christchurch. I like the look of the area - never actually been there, but pictures look fantastic. Google maps are a godsend.

Christchurch will be a good base for you because if you have a bad day on here you can travel down to Queenstown and throw yourself off one of the numerous bungee jumps they have to calm yourslef down. :)

Are you from NZ?

Australia.

need i say more? :)
Report ChrisWidge February 7, 2010 12:50 PM GMT
No, I'm from the UK and live in UK, but went for 6 weeks in 2005 after I finished university. It's also a lot nicer and more pleasant than Australia too.

used to do some business with a NZ based guy. Gambling winnings are taxable there as far as the letter of the law goes if its on a professional basis (AFAIK - quite willing/ready to be shot down in flames)

Where are you from? How old are you?

I have some interesting views on living in NZ if you want to hear them.

I have recently, well August, come back from NZ. I am 33 and went over to play a bit of football, do some work and give living overseas a go with a view to emigration.

My background is working in fast paced environments and i found it very very hard. Went over on a 1 year working visa, my best mate lives in Wellington and cousin in Christchurch.

I really really loved it as a place to visit but to live it was far too quiet and I lived right in the centre of Wellington, the capital! I got a job at a major international bank (and i found it very slow paced) and even the football was played at walking place.

If you can hack quiet days and a quiet life then it might be for you.

Depending on where you live in the UK you may find it very hard to adjust.

even silly things like watching the FA Cup in a nightclub at 3am is kind of strange. Everything hapens in the middle of the night as well, which sounds kind of silly but is also very hard to come to terms with.

not sure if i am making my points well enough! lol
Report The Betfairy February 7, 2010 8:16 PM GMT
Quiet pace does not bother me at all. My middle name is "sleep".
Report JimmyK February 7, 2010 8:18 PM GMT
will you be working for yourself or a company?
Report JimmyK February 7, 2010 8:19 PM GMT
btw, christchurch is fantastic
Report The Betfairy February 7, 2010 8:20 PM GMT
Well, I never thought I'd be doing it again, but I will have to work for someone.
Report JimmyK February 7, 2010 8:21 PM GMT
they are pretty laid back out there.

when you thinking of moving?
Report GPT February 7, 2010 8:22 PM GMT
Do they have the internet in NZ now then?
Report The Betfairy February 7, 2010 8:24 PM GMT
Jimmy - we're in the very early days yet - just investigating options. But I'd go tomorrow if I could.

that is harsh, some very very hot women out there and they love english blokes.

it is a little how I imagine england in the 1960s but i went in 2005 and then again in 2009 and it has gone downhill a bit in terms of social standards, just catching up with us I suppose!

betfairy

do you have a family, kids?
Report The Betfairy February 7, 2010 8:32 PM GMT
Yep, married two kids, leaving school in a few years. That is a concern, what with the levels of unemployment.
Report JimmyK February 7, 2010 8:34 PM GMT
for raising children its fantastic. very clean and very safe. but you say your kids are older but still its a pleasant environment to live.

unemployment is a problem everywhere and out there they should always have tourism on their side and the 'brain drain' sees the youth move over to oz or do the overseas thing so as long as they are reasonably adpatable and personable they should get a job reasonably easily over there
Report The Betfairy February 7, 2010 8:37 PM GMT
Thanks for taking the time to reply, Jimmy, and everyone. It's good to receive agreeable opinions :)
Report GPT February 7, 2010 8:40 PM GMT
Didn't mean to** on yoiur party Betfairy but I just didn't like the place, most people love ut judt not for me.
Report JimmyK February 7, 2010 8:41 PM GMT
not a problem bf.

its a very nice country and for some people is perfect.

i think i need to live somewhere where there is for want of a better word an 'edge' about it. maybe a little bit faster paced or riskier environment.

nz is amazing, but it was not for me.
Report The Betfairy February 7, 2010 8:41 PM GMT
