Does anyone know whether paying beneath the national minimum wage is acceptable, if a job pays bonuses and or commission?

basic wage is below minimum but quite easy to earn 40k |

self employed posistion do not have to pay anything.
its not legal to employ people at a fixed place of work(more than 6 weeks) as selfemployed. exceptions are CIS scheme, fishing industry |
