Any Accountants able to offer advice about getting a plc's accounts

Companies House search is what you need costs about £1.50 as I recall.

You can usually get them online from the company's web site if it is reputable and quoted for nothing.

Alternatively if it is a plc that is not quoted and or does not want to disclose on their web site then it costs very little to get the latest financials from Companies House online. About a tenner, the last time I ordered one.

Just for fun as I don't fancy doing much betting for the rest of the day, what is the name of the company and what is your concern?

I have not bashed a balance sheet in eons.

The company in question is AIM listed - and they are trying to sue me for some training that I did with them - they say that this training cost them £13.5k, which is, extremely difficult to believe - impossible in fact. They have provided this training to over a thousand people, so I think it must show in their accounts

apart from certian sensitive areas like Directors Renumeration individual expenses are not listed on the published compnay accounts

I think that it would be very difficult to get to the bottom of that from their stats. Almost 100% but you never know what these Directors put in their reports. Probably 99.8%.

If they say that they have a claim then they will have to prove it and supply you with information.

But I would look first at the contract you have signed. That may have clauses that are very relevant. If it is not defined then start hitting them with the marginal costing concept.

Probably your contract is the first place to look.

Consider counter suing them if they in any way breached their contract with you(whatever was agreed verbally can form part of the contract.)

The matter will then be heard in your local court, which may or may not be an advantage to you depending on whether they have to travel or not.

I once did a similar thing and the suers became the sued, so to speak. They agreed to pay me the amount they had initailly sued me for the day before the hearing. They then sent me a cheque for it, as did their solicitors, so I was paid twice, which I reasoned was just about adequate recompense for the trouble to which I had been put by them.

That could be different but it still comes back to what the loan agreement looks like and is firstly a lawyer issue, unless you have got past that. But with 300 people involved I would be surprised if you all need to be rolled over, if you have a case.

It should show up in the numbers but I doubt if it would be isolated. But what their accounts say is not the key issue. Your contract with them is.

You are out of my realm now. I can do numbers but you need a lawyer not an accountant. I would suggest the terms and fairness of the contract and if they can swing marginal costing then look at that.

If the training was not as described in any advertising or in any conversations you had with the person who effectively sold you the training, you are effectively in the precise position I found myself in, and a counter suit for breach of contract is definitely the course to follow. You would sue them for all losses as a result of their breach of contract.

I have a little legal training so handled my own case, and there were much smaller sums in question, but the principles will be the same.

If not familiar with the basics of contract law I definitely recommend you consult a solicitor with a view to mounting a defence and counter claim.

Do not be bluffed by these charletons would be my few words of motivation if indeed any are required.
