Does anyone know of any streaming technology which would enable the taking of a satellite feed (say Sky TV) and broadcasting it across the internet at near zero latency?
This is not to pirate, but to enable overseas betting.

If within Europe, then you could set up a satellite dish and receiver if that's doable. It also depends on what you mean by near zero latency? The satellite signal is a few seconds behind the live action, so I think retransmitting the signal from your home via a Slingbox (or similar) over broadband shouldn't add significantly to the satellite signal delay. I think the Slingbox adapts the broadcast quality to the bandwidth available, so there shouldn't be any additional buffering, but you should check that out yourself. There's nothing you can do about the propagation delay over the internet unless you want to save a few milliseconds by spending a fortune on a leased line, say, to a peering point. It's worth using an ISP which doesn't cut your rate severely at times of the day when you would want to stream. I know there are some ISPs which specialise for gamers who require minimum latency to their servers, but I doubt this would help much. |

Thanks chaps - I shall look into this. I will definitely be outside the footprint, but want access to the European satellites. It's the propagation delay I was more concerned with since anything beyond a couple of seconds makes the whole exercise pointless.

Nothing can guarantee you won't get an internet delay.
The key is to avoid additional buffering delay. |

I am going toIbiza for 6 onths in March I have virgin cable if I had a sling box could I pick the channels up on my pc and if so how do I do this and at what cost sorry if this sounds stupid but I am not up to speed with all of the above.Thanks

Just buy an enormous dish and take you're Sky Box and card with you. All over Europe, Cyprus for example, bars show live Premiership games from Sky. The bigger dish is needed to pick up the weakened signal which is concentrated over the UK, but pretty much "leaks" to most of the northern hemisphere.
