Go for the Betfair API. I find it works best with Betfair.

The geeks toy is the free one,i use it its quick,stable and you can customise it to your need,very good bit of kit.The forum is usefull aswell.Gruss is good and reasonably priced compared to other API,good for automated betting and linking up to excel if thats you thing
