Just wondered if anyone knew of any good books about trading? Interested in reading something with methods of when to get out.

Only read bits of one or two books on trading, but they tend to only really run over the basics i.e. back high, lay low, which is pretty obvious.

Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom By Van K. Tharp is the best one I have found.

Mastering Betfair is newish but since I mislaid my copy shortly after purchase, I cannot say anything about it.

I've just read the reviews on Amazon of this book, and decided not to buy it.

Content of the book is available only after you buy it. The reviews exist to give you a guide as to whether it may be helpful.

I posted a list, but it comes up with a 'moderated forum' message. Hope it appears later...

Moonlight,

That is why I like bookshop. You can always look at the content there. I still miss my local Borders

This moderated lark seems to be much more of a problem than it used to be.
I think Mr W_e-b b ;s training courses were harshly criticised on here, so now you can't promote his books! Serves him right. I've made several failed attempts to buy his book, never available eventually.

Moon Light: Admittedly, it isn't perhaps the easiest book in the world to understand, but I think it's a huge mistake not to make the effort to at least try.

There have been quite a few of these threads over the years. I bought some of the books listed below as a result of recommendations by others :)

My favourite books on trading or related to trading are:

Trading Risk by Kenneth L. Grant
Great book, easy to read, understand and apply. Focuses heavily on performance analysis, which is extremely important in my opinion.

Portfolio Management Formulas : Mathematical Trading Methods for the Futures, Options, and Stock Markets by Ralph Vince
All applicable to gambling. Food for thought, requires some study.

Against the Gods by Peter L. Bernstein
A history of risk and how it has been quantified throughout time.

The Wisdom of Crowds by James Surowiecki
A great read. The classic "popular delusions and the madness of crowds" is also interesting, focusing on things like 'tulip-mania' and the South-Sea bubble.
An interesting idea that springs up from this book is that 'the crowd' is highly intelligent as long as everyone acts independently.

The Misbehaviour of Markets by Benoit Mandelbrot
Highlights flaws in traditional models used in finance, and suggests radical improvements. Easy to follow.

Fortune's Formula by William Poundstone
This is an amazing book, and it introduced me to Edward Thorp, who is my role model when it comes to gambling. Very entertaining and informative.

The Myth of the Rational Market by Justin Fox
I'm reading this one at the moment. Very well researched.

Market Wizards and The New Market Wizards by Jack D. Schwager
Both are excellent. Gives some insight into how traders make money.

Fortune's Formula annoyed me with its politically correct use of "she" when referring to gamblers. It was interesting to find out that a lot of car parks and entertainment companies are built on mafia money, though. I'll never dodge a ticket again.

The book is a very long way of telling you to use the Kelly Crriterion, which you should. Other than that, it was mostly rubbish.
