I use momentum tick trading on the favourite.

So, if backing then the rules are:

1. Weight of money must be below 0.20.
2. Second Back amount / Second Lay amount is less than 0.20.
3. All other selection back prices are greater than 20 ticks.
4. Monitoring between 1 and 10 minutes before the start.
5. Non handicap races.
6. Trades are 250 regardless of the odds.

Hope this helps.

Cybernet, they look like solid rules to my untrained eye. Do you ever have problems with your opening position being matched (ie, the back bet on a steamer) due to the WOI being just under 0.20 (with all other factors satisifed of course) and then the market immediately moving back the other way before it drops a tick?
Report cybernet. • May 23, 2008 5:48 PM BST
i dont fire the back bet in @ current back price. Bets are fired in @ 1.01
Report JPG • May 23, 2008 5:52 PM BST
So if the current back/lay price of the fav is say 2.16/2.18 with all other factors ok, youll fire in a 250 back bet at 2.18 (assuming it was a steamer that you were looking at.)

Or am I missing something?
Report cybernet. • May 23, 2008 5:54 PM BST
no. i will fire the back bet in @ 1.01 hoping to get matched @ 2.16 if the conditions are met. Then the lay bet is fired in @ 2.16 - 1 tick.
Report JPG • May 23, 2008 6:01 PM BST
Oh, I see. In that case the theory would be that the same result is occured as simply backing at 2.16.

Therefore, naively I must ask, why ask for an offer at 1.01? Obviously, youll get the best price available but whats there to gain by doing this method? Is it simply easier from an IT design point of view?
Report cybernet. • May 23, 2008 6:03 PM BST
Becuase if i ask for 2.16 and it moves fast (which often happens) then i wont get matched. So, i always fire in @ 1.01, so the back will always get matched first. Once matched then the software will fire in a lay bet @ back_price - 1 tick.
Report JPG • May 23, 2008 6:13 PM BST
Ah right, so in the 2.16/2.18 example, if you simply asked for 2.16 and just beforehand it moved to 2.14, you wouldnt get matched (or not instantly anyway). With your way, youd get matched at 2.14 and an automatic lay at 2.12 with greening would occur.

However, even with this set-up, its possible for the 2.14 to get matched (by asking for 1.01) and then the price drifitng immediately backwards.

I know from other threads you put in a stop loss at 4 ticks but is this a common occurence with these parameters?
Report cybernet. • May 23, 2008 6:17 PM BST
I only do favs in non handicaps as these tend to steam in the last 10mins before the off.

However, if the prices moves against me then i close out the trade for a loss and repeat the process again and again.

It has been extremly rare that i have started a race with a loss.
Report Trevh • May 23, 2008 8:19 PM BST
Cyber, does your bot place the bets or do you? If it's the bot, does it stop before the price turns?(I guess so if it's reading wom). Or does it sometimes get caught on the last back bet of a steamer then matching the stop loss lay?

4.67 A DAY it pays the mobile bill and the betfair bill for the constant refreshes ;)
Report cybernet. • May 23, 2008 8:59 PM BST
Harry.

Trading nets between 120 and 160 per day. This is pretty much consistent across the week apart from Sundays, as i dont bother due to liquidity.

I dont actually place the bets, my software does. And no i dont pay any data or transaction charges as the software has been adjusted to not exceed the BF thresholds.

Only jesting cybernet, all the best :)
Report cybernet. • May 23, 2008 9:03 PM BST
no worries buzzer, i assumed you were joking.

anyway, i think people have long been aware of this type of trading so i am not letting any secrets out.

i just dont bother with Handicaps as i find these to be heavily traded by other bots using spoof monies.

cybernet

Very interesting thread - thanks for sharing!
I hadn't thought about firing the bets in at 1.01 - you learn something new everyday.
Do you have any additional rules to the ones mentioned - eg in relation to flat / NH or number of runners?
Report PATSTEP • May 24, 2008 1:46 PM BST
Just one additional question - you might answer!
If you have managed to green up, say 8 mins before the race start, do you continue to monitor the odds to see whether another opportunity presents itself before the off?
Report cybernet. • May 24, 2008 1:50 PM BST
Yes, i keep trading (if conditions are met) upto 1 minute before the start.
Report Hooverfly • May 25, 2008 8:14 AM BST
Cybernet,
What do you do if the price goes against you, does the bot just bet a whole string a t a loss?
Report torcello • May 25, 2008 10:35 AM BST
He said earlier that he takes 4 tick loss. It's automated. What I don't understand is what's 0.2 weight of money?
Report Feck N. Eejit • May 25, 2008 10:37 AM BST
torcello, download betfairrapid, it has a WOM indicator.
Report cybernet. • May 25, 2008 3:44 PM BST
The 0.2 mean there is more than 5 times more money on the lay side.

Example:

Back Volume = 100
Lay Volume = 500+

Thanks guys.

Saw this method demonstrated ( manually) on a B/F education night......defo one for software to do for you as anyone would go nuts doing this manually all the time........
Report Trevh • May 26, 2008 12:00 AM BST
I'd like to see it in action. As I said above, I still think the last back bet of a steaming run will result in the Bot taking a four tick loss, unless it can see into the future and accurately predict someone lumping on a xxk lay when the lay price has dropped several ticks, and the layer is taking advantage of that. Of course it can not though, so the result will be the four tick loss.. This isn't as easy as Cyber makes it sound.

Harry:

Again I ask the question why do you need help and advice, " I earn 100k a year as a trader".

Harry, If you are just starting out as a trader, then fair enough to ask for help, and good guys like cybernet are willing to help you, BUT why do you persist with this facade of being a trader and then mugging yourself by asking how is it done.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, grow up son.

just trying to gain adivice as I thought the being of te forum was for this, I have been suprised by how helpfull people on here are and thank them v much, I don't get the motive of people like "layem" if you don't like someone or disagree surely you just would keep your opinions to yourself
Report layem&payem • May 26, 2008 9:14 AM BST
Harry: Why I dislike you is that you are a conman, leech and an idiot.

First time I read one of your post you were making out you were a "layer" making 100k a year. Then someone asked you to post your bets, to be fair you did, except they were "backs" for 2 a time. Again nothing wrong with betting 2, if that is what your happy with. But why make out your a big player........your not, by the way the posting only lasted 2 days, and recorded a slight loss.
Next you were asking forumites to send you 5, agree on selections, you would place the bets and distribute the winnings..........................how dodgy does that sound.
You are always asking for help & advice, again nothing wrong with that ,as the forum is designed for that purpose but when anyone ask's a question of you your stock answer is " I cannot answer that as it would give away my edge. I only trade in markets with limited liquidity".................how the fu* k do you make 100k a year then.
You are a misguided child at best, a liar conman at worst........................I will continue to make all aware of what you are.

I dont for one minute say this is easy todo. If it was then everyone would be rich.

There are rules around when/if the stop-loss is fired. Its not just a case of the price moving against me. The software looks at what monies are entering the market and makes a decision based on if it thinks it is SPOOF monies. It also looks at what monies are being traded on the second favourite etc.

Finally, it wont trade every horse race, for obvious reasons.
