Betfair, the online gaming exchange, has selected two investment banks to advise it on a £1.5 billion stock-market flotation.

It is understood to have chosen Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to weigh up options for its future, which include a possible sale or share listing.

The firm took two billion wagers last year and reported earnings of £72m, a 29% rise, on sales 27% higher at £303m.

It believes it is well placed to lead a consolidation of the gaming sector.

The last time they considered floating they paid some financial sector ponce 2 million just to walk into the office and fart. I wonder how much they'll be paying these leviathans of the parasite world. You'd think having worked in the city they'd know that these people are f@nny merchants but no, it seems that those who work in the city end up believing their own publicity.

PC may deliver short term profits, but if competitors like purple had any sense at all, they should have a plan to take half BFs market within the year.

You just don't get it - how can** take Betfair's market share without drastically increasing an exchange's lifeblood - LOSING money. Exchanges are a natural monopoly. Get over it.

No reason at all why exchanges should be a natural monopoly. Price competition should move them over to purp if only purp had a plan.

Liquidity is the lifeblood of an exchange , competition dilutes liquidity , so a monopoly , however undesirable , is the natural order of things.

The key is the exchange with the monopoly does not abuse that position to the point where it destroys itself .
