It can be a losing account and they cut it.
By:
they sometimes restrict losing accounts if it looks as though you know what you're doing and will become profitable somewhere down the line ;)
By:
Do you know why they'd close a losing account?
By:
They can realise they have been lucky and that you will beat them over time.
By:
Like taking 4/1 about 7/4 shots and being done a st.hd.

Thanks. Interesting.

I have 17 different accounts, my most successful is Billies where Im up £12,500 from 13 bets (different markets) over 3.5 years.
I dont know if the amount Ive won is not big enough, or maybe because I havent bet that often with them over 3.5 years? |

If you take prices that end up shorter. You see despite all the advertsing of prices that bookmakers do you are not supposed to
a) Beat the prices b) Shop round for best prices Either of these will result in bans both online and in shops. |
By:
Joshaug most of those bets have been on prices that later ended up shorter.
Surely they cant be against people comparing different firms for the best prices? How would they even know? |
By:
They know ehen they are biggest on a horse and if you back it this is logged. Its a simpl database query to see if you are only playin when they are most generous. They can also easily see how often you are beating SP. This alone will gbet you banned or restricted at best.
By:
I've never bet on horses, I'd have thought that if they offer the best price then they are encouraging people to take the bet.
(But I don't know, and I appreciate your replies). |
By:
Maybe I've misunderstood, I thought you were talking about best price between different firms. Are you talking about the changing prices within one firm before the SP?

I'm just bringing this thread to the top to give it another chance (if you can excuse my ignorance about horse betting above).
I had hoped somebody could say "I was blocked after I had won x" and somebody else "I was blocked after I had won y" just to give us all some idea. |
By:
You've been allowed to win far more than I ever have.
I've never got past 3k and I'm banned from all kinds of places, mostly banned before 1500. I'm also very careful not to arb and don't always take the best price available |
By:
and I've had losing accounts banned too.
By:
As others have said, it's about your percentage and the types of bets you have.
It's not particularaly hard to set a confidence threshold and ban people who cross it, couple that with other posts in the thread that track best price etc etc and they can spot a winner a mile away.... and they're not scared to ban losers in their quest to ban winners, I know complete mugs who are banned. |

By:
it is a myth
it is what you bet on had 4k on man utd at lads online they did not win next bet max liabilty was about £50 |
By:
I am talking about both Henry pre race and live betting. Obviously it is tied in with your performance as well but soon as they see you beating the price you get cut. Some bookies are more brutal than others. The nanny goat fore example are a disgrace.
By:
the industry is changing all the time what was happening last year isnt this
so bookies margins are tighter they might restrict you if you won £100 in a month last year may of been a thousand 15% gross profit tax aint helping and the recession you may bet close to kick off or race start so the cant lay off in time the variables are unknown why they restrict and its not worth trying to find out as it will be different reasons for different punters |
By:
Interesting guys.
By:
Lori looking back through my records I realise I've been restricted by Laddies since I've been 3K up with them (I thought before that I was being restricted because of market size).
I'm only over 3K up with a few of them as I try to spread bets around. |
By:
jonneyg I've been restricted lots of times by all of them but (with the exception of Laddies above) the size of the particular market with the particular bookie is what I think is the reason.
By:
...and I've never had an account closed yet.
By:
Sporting bet were the worst for me, I lasted 3 bets before they banned me (though I was taking the p!ss out their odds tbf). Despite what other punters have experienced, sid james and victor have yet to limit me, let alone ban.
By:
the bookies will consider you to be a potentil arber the moment you login BF if you use the same PC so thats why you could get banned ASAP
By:
88 as long as you don't go directly from the Betfair browser window to the bookie site how can they tell if you use Betfair or not?
By:
bookies are not interested in taking a large bet off you unless they know your a mug
