been doing it in Australia for a long time now and the punters love it.......great idea imo
By:
It's ridiculous that they have taken so long to force you to modernise.
By:
and you reckon more people will go racing because of it lolololo.olo.
By:
so wot about the guys who dont have electric boards, you think they should have to write3.25 up instead of 9/4 , total and utter nonsense.

surely as oncourse bookmakers we dont have to go along with this garbage You'd probably prefer to be working in Pounds Shillings and Pence too. Get on the bus, grandad. Why do you think exchanges are so popular with punters who only back anyway? I'm 42 and I bet at least 20 times what I ever used to with the confusing fractional system. |
By:
Your days are numbered anyway. Just try to toe the line so you can spin it out for a little bit longer.
By:
Bookies already do a lot of their business on Betfair - which has decimalised odds !
By:
alot of people don't go racing because the British weather is dire
By:
please please explain why on earth more punters will go racing because of decimal odds.fontwell racecourse p[uts on very good evening meetings withtribute bands, these are very well attended, this is the way to get people going racing.i all for any changes that improve the racing experiance for the public as it increases turnover , butchange for the sake of it is not the way forward. just becuese the aussies display in decimal odds i dont see why we have to do the same as them.
By:
marky, trust me mate whilst the weather can obviously put people off having a day at the races it is just a very small partof the attendance problem.you must remember , the people like the gambling commission and the other authorities ive mentioned above have very little understanding of the racing game. iits quite crazy that they have such a say in things really.
By:
It works in Australia.
By:
Won't this make it easier for punters to compare prices against Betfair?
By:
correct Betfairy...i suspect this is why sickoflayinwinners doesn't like it
By:
sickoflayinwinners Re the bands playing at the races. At Newmarket the crowd is only there for the musc, not the racing. Ask Barry Denis about the Friday evenings at Headquarters, a waste of time in his opinion.
By:
the dogs are a better night out than horses
By:
sickoflayinwinners, when you can't lay the 5/2 chance, wouldn't you rather go 3.6 than 11/4 (3.75) to get it in ?
By:
Whatever happened to 100/6, 100/7, 100/8 and 100/9 ???
By:
Still there on course if you ask, as are all the fractions from 11/2 upwards.
By:
actually kenilworth i have a pitch at newmarket and its only ok acouple of nights whereas fontwell is far better.towcestr have used the no cost to get in view and they make the money up on beer and food.i can assure u of one thing, decimal odds wont get people to the races, in fact punters who like to have a 500/40 or 1000/30 will not be getting those benefits anymore.the atmophere will be non existent . many punters often ask what has happened to tic tacs, now can u imagine bookies on course shouting 2.75 the field. its utter booollloox.
By:
If you can't convert them in your head im sure you could write them down.
By:
as for it making it easier for puntrs to compare odds to betfair i dontbthink its an oncourse bookies job make it easy for punters to compare our prices to betfair. its the punters choice to bet with bookies or exchanges , surely its not our rsponsibilty to asid them betting with the exchanges.i have no p;roblem with the offcourse bookies returning s/ps in fractions , decimals, or fkn braille if they chose to but i dont wanna be told howto ruyn my business thanks.
By:
write wot down lori.
By:
It's how the rest of the world has done it for 30 years. It's no wonder nobody wants to go watch your antiquitated guff anymore if all the bookies have your attitude to modernising things
By:
you can still shout 7/4 the field, just enter it as 2.75
with computers doing more and more of the work the change to decimal odds is inevitable. |
By:
I can't believe someone with a legal license to print money is crying about something so trivial.
You get to lay 125% overrounds ffs, deal with it |
By:
lori why dont u getyourself a legal license to print money.av 125 percents lol , you reallyare on another planetless than 1 percent a runner is the norm.
By:
surely the sytsems that we operate are simple enuff for even thge thickest of punters to understand. ffs we print them out a ticket with possible win or ew returns opn em. if it aint broke dont**it.
By:
I've been to Newmarket a few times... to watch bands.
By:
I'm waiting till they decide to decimalise time
By:
It really isn't about modernising, it's about slowly erroding all our traditions.
What will get more people to go racing is reducing the cost involved. What I read this morning in the Mail was utter rubbish. When engaging in any sport we all have to learn the rules/laws, and all related terminology; it's part of the enjoyment. To say that new enthusiasts cannot learn what 'hanging' means is almost insulting. It's like saying women cannot understand the offside law! |

how many of the people demanding "modernisation" on this thread say they are 1.7 metres tall and 80 kilos ? If the EU had come up with this suggestion they would be screaming the gaff down.

flogging a dead horse could have been invented for horse racing.

how many of the people demanding "modernisation" on this thread say they are 1.7 metres tall and 80 kilos ? If the EU had come up with this suggestion they would be screaming the gaff down. If my job depended on it I'd declare my height in parsecs and my weight in slugs. I've had to deal with three different types of prices for 17 years in this game and I don't really care either way, but if it's going to get more people gambling, let's get it all on the same page. British bookmakers are the worst in the world, you'd think they'd welcome the chance to try to lose that reputation. |
By:
yet another bolloox comment from lori.
By:
Will these new odds apply to 5 furlong races where the horse carries 8 stone 7 pounds ?
By:
Sensible idea that should have happened donkeys ago.
By:
Bookmakers could improve relations with on course punters by showing a bit more patience with newbies. These type of punters can feel quite intimidated at times by gruff bookmakers.
By:
The decimal odds system will also help to encourage the younger generation to attend and gamble as decimal is so easy to understand......I personally dont have a clue when it comes to fractional odds!!
