Is there a way to look/search/locate/find a specific string of numbers in a spreadsheet?
Imagine you've a giant page of thousands of cells with different numbers in. I want a quick way to find any cell (or even just 1 cell) that has a specific sequence of numbers within it. e.g. I'm looking for, say 763214 - doesn't matter if there's a decimal point within that sequence or if those numbers are contained within a larger sequence of numbers in the cell . Does that make sense?
Want to avoid using a parallell column with IF(cell=763214;1;0) type command; just want directing to the cell with the relevant sequence in it.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Probably not what you mean, but just in case, have you used ctrl-f on the keyboard?

Thanks for your suggestion, but that will (I think) only find a cell that contains solely those numbers enterd in the "find" box. So, say, if I'm looking for anywhere where the sequence 564676 occurs, CTRL-F will only take me to that cell if they are the only digits in the cell. But I want to know if such a sequence occurs even within a longer group of numbers say 1345646760023. Does that make sense?.

It makes sense... I think it still works and you can click "next" to scroll through them. I'll give it a quick go

yep, ctrl-f does what you need there

*won't do the decimal thing though, the string would have to have no decimal in it.

it can be done using FIND, LEFT and CONCATENATE functions. Could you figure it out?
You can easily get it by asking on mrexcel.com

Select a cell at the start of your data
click on find & select(menu) Click find, type in what numerical string you wish to find
Make sure values are selected and then click find next.
