I never thought I would see myself congratulating C4 ML but well done the other week when, I am reliably informed, that the laptop chap had the gumption to ask the betting shop manageress of the year whether her firm bans winning punters. Of course she denied it, being shop manager of the year but it sufficiently exposed a side of the industry that many are unaware of.

Banning customers in shops does not happen that much rather than restricting them. Which for staff isn't the nicest thing in the world to enforce. Someone tries to get £400 on a favourite and you have to tell them they can only have £25, due to the area manager worrying incessantly about profits.

That's quite an amusing typo Gashwan considering you were replying to a "james"

Oh, and they also think that the world owes them a living.

funny i get acused of being a arber in bookies all the time. also my online accounts are restricted to 2.50 for arbing.

i choose to do somthing about my problems however, instead of crying like a little girl on a betting forum about how i'm too stupid to be able to get a bet on

Fair enough, if you're not a bookie, I apologise.
It leaves me puzzled why you criticised the OP. What's wrong with C4 finally raising the issue?
Report GASHWAN December 28, 2009 4:11 PM GMT
nothing.

just find the same old freds from the same old arbers boring as sin.

The aim of the thread is not to whinge but to encourage the raising of an awareness of this activity. The bookmakers would prefer to keep it quiet and have in the past been very effective at it. It is also not a question of £400 being restricted to 25 quid, the amounts are much less significant than that. Finally I can also say that

a) I am not and never have been an arber
b) I have found effective ways around the problem but I feel a duty to applaud those who continue to raise the issue on behalf of all other punters.

A thread like this will inevitabley attract a few bookmakers or devoted bookie employees trying to counteract the purpose of the thread.

Don't think bookies can be arsed defending their position anymore, pretty much everyone who wants a bet does so offshore these days anyway as the prices are better and you don't get restricted as quickly.

Thankfully they're all going skint so we won't have to worry.

The Big Three are offshore bookies now anyway :D
