Excel novice here so please excuse what is probably an ignorant question

When i download the P&L I get a little green arrow in each entry and am unable to highlight entries and do an autosum. How do I get around this so I can sort the spreadsheet and total the P&L for various segments? Any help appreciated..

You should be able to highlight them all, then click on one of those arrows (left click or right, cant remember) and choose convert to number

I can highlight a column of numbers (my profits or losses) but can't then autosum them to provide a total or get anything meaningful by right or left clicking, the menu just comes up with cut, copy, insert, delete etc

Like Joel says- roll over the little green arrow and you get a special pop up menu, choose convert to number and the job's a good un.

hmm, I'm probably being stupid here, but hovering my mouse over it doesn't provide any menu. And in excel i have a hovering cross and not an arrow head as usual?

There's also a 1000 lines of data each with a green arrow, surely I don't roll over each one?

Sorry, highlight all the fields with the green triangle thingy, then next to one of them a yellow ! box should appear - click on this and choose Convert To Number, that should work....

Ok- click on the cell with the value in it, a little box comes up with an exclamation mark in it, now click on the exclamation mark, you get a menu, choose "conver to number".

Now- you can do the above with all the relavent cells selected (just select the whole column) and it'll do the whole lot at once.
