How many people make a living on Betfair, is it viable as a full time job, i do bet on the rugby union putting lumpy bets on 1/4 shots, i also bet in the correct goal market laying more than backing, so far so good and i have withrawn money out of my account, i am now using a method called scraping which means being mean but keen with my bets, it could go pear shaped but fate is in my own hands, it would be great to read your opinions.

on a serious note ..good luck and yes of course it can be done, but only with

HARD WORK
DEDICATION
SKILL
PATIENCE
DEEP KNOWLEDGE
SPECIALISATION
DISCIPLINE
GOOD MONEY MANAGEMENT

on a more serious note - this month i have earned more from here than my reasonaly well paid job. It's not the first time either. But if you went fulltime what about NI and pensions contributions and all that...

good point, im currently making more here than in my job, but dont have the confidence nor the inclination to make the break as yet..maybe if i was continuing in a similar vein 12 months from now, and with at least two years wages in the bank..then i could well be tempted..in fact i know i would be

could make voluntary NI cotributions if he wanted to - but that would hardly be the biggest concern at the moment.

i dont understand the hate towards them.....if you send a gridiron team out on a sunday you will do anything too win...same principle on here ;)

No problem with arbers myself but how can you call it betting James ?

the hate thing against arbers is just bookie lies and spin...an excuse to get rid of all winners. The people who go along with it have been brainwashed by bs propaganda.

Never understood why arbers are supposedly so hated. Personally, I couldn't care less what someone else is doing. Arbing would bore me to tears so fair play to anyone who can do that full time.

As for going pro, one thing I would add is that doing it part time is completely different to full time. The pressure is immensely tougher and the worst thing is, you won't know how you will react until you are in that situation whereby you have nothing to fall back on and bills that need to be paid.

It's much easier to do it part time and just because you are successful PT does not mean you will be FT. Have plenty of savings at the ready if you take the plunge.

Oh yes, and as has already been said, be prepared to lose at the start but don't let that put you off - it's all part of the education. Think of it as 'training costs' and it will help you bear the loss better.

No one on here should have problems with arbers. They provide mug liquidity and value prices without knowing what value is, but they keep reloading. The ideal losers on here for those who can win.

They shouldn't be decried, they should be encouraged.

and treble - arbers know what value is and can identify it better than most, they just havent the balls to take advantage of it
By:

arbers take free money from the market, knock prices into line as they go about their business, and consequently leave less value available for position takers who know value and have the confidence to have a punt

however, there's no rules against what they do, and i sometimes avail myself of their services

Don't agree with that at all. If you can make it pay part time( i.e earn 2k+ a month), fulltime will be much easier.
The major advantage being able to pick and choose matches that suit - rather than having to make do with whats available when you're not at work

Curlywurly, think you've missed the point I'm making. Not disputing you can't make money FT just cos you do PT, what I'm saying is that the mentality and pressure is completely different.

For example, if you have are PT and blow your bank, you have no real worries cos you have your job to fall back on and start again. In my experience, this definitely affects how you place bets / trade.

And if things start to go wrong, can you honestly say you would stick to your strategy even though you have rent to pay and food to buy? I don't think anyone can know that pressure unless they are in the situation - that's all I meant.

And also, the whole concept of building a bank is totally different cos you HAVE to withdraw a certain amount each month / week.

I see your point Vaprus, but if you've built up sizeable savings before going ft then that pressure is overrated imo
If you haven't then of course you'd feel the strain

reckon its impossible on betfair unless you've inside info on non trying horses or something. 5 per cent commision, premium charges etc.

Most who are pros and earn average £2000 a week are the ones who go to the course hire a room and lay the fallers in running.Also9 when the horse is a length or 2 in front over the last the on course guys back it at 1.01.Sometimes they need a taxi maybe 1 time in 20(thats not very often)but most often they collect.

no doubt some people make a few quid laying fallers, but to think there is a huge market full of mug money just waiting to be snapped up on such happenings is of mythical proportions on these forums.

not sure why everyone automatically assumes that making a living must mean betting on horse sports like tennis, basketball and cricket are much more lucrative imo and don't need fast pictures etc to make money never ever bet on horses myself

The rugby is pretty nailed on, look for miss matches, New Zealand just created a few of them, Wales, England and Italy ETC, and the guy in the racing plus magazine on Saturday is red hot on his rugby league give England to beat New Zealand and is very good on try scorers, six nations is a bit harder but France are due a biggy very soon, been to quiet for a few years.
