Every Friday Dundalk run the last race 25 minutes after the previous race, and every Friday the race goes off late. Is there a reason to bring the off-time 5 minutes forward, or is this a ploy by the bookmakers to keep punters in the shops?
I'm pretty sure it is down to betting shops having to close (by law) at 9.30pm. You might recall a couple of years back the race times at the uk evening meetings where scheduled at obscure times like 7:06, 7:34 etc to squeeze in all the races before 9:30. Since when they have taken the radical step of having the last uk race scheduled for 9:20!!
It's also quite bizare that Irelands only all weather track doesn't actually race through the winter months!
