I remember having a lucky 15 once in the bookies, but couldn't find a price for my last selection - Corrib Eclipse.....

I asked the bookie for it's price, and after he found it, he chuckled and said 100-1. Amazed i wrote the odds on the slip, then wrote out a £1 each way "just in case"
It duly bolted up, and when I went to collect, the guy didn't say a word and just shook his head.

Corrib Eclipse had had several runs in national hunt flat races including the champion bumper at Cheltenham, but had then changed stables and was running in a proper flat race. It was running in the last race at Ascot in where it had previous form and it was under a featherweight of 9-0 instead of 11-4 as it had been running of. I really did fancy it, but I wasn't a big punter back then, nor did I have the balls to put on a big bet!

That was in 2004 and before my Betfair days.

Had a few 100+ winners on here, but for some reason that one always sticks out.

330/1 on yang to win the USPGA. Had peanuts on it though unfortunately.

Really did fancy him to do well though, was a case of the odds dictating my stake.

1550/1 - a 20p tricast at Walthamstow dogs about 15 years ago which fetched £310.

Great thing about betting is that when you lose, you're a sad addict and when you win, you're a short term hero... and it's your round.

In the good old days of Betfair when the markets were not ultra efficient, I had 100-1+ avg odds on a horse called Devise (1st June 2003). Pre off it was actually matched @ 500. I started backing the night before @ around 40, was trading 100+ an hour before the race. The sp was 33-1, it had a poor draw but a great formbook chance.

Opportunities like that simply do not happen on the horse racing markets these days.

66/1 winner and 50/1 2nd in a perm 10p Exacta.....Only paid about 1600/1 due to the fact the pool was only about £2000.

Hence the name.

Also backed Paul Lawrie Pre tournament to win the Open @ 150/1 in a bookies. Only had 50p e/w . Main bet was £3 win Greg Norman.

Straight forecast paying over 300/1 when I was a penniless student. Its the main reason I am here now. :)

Also in student days had an acca worth over 3000/1. 4 picks, first 3 went in and the final one fell at the last when 10 lengths clear :(

Got to be about 30 yrs ago, was in a betting shop one afternoon reading the old Sporting Chronicle. Read that some trainer (can't remember who) had been called into the stewards room to explain the running of one of his horses.

He said that the horse (again, can't remember the name) needed 7 furlongs and soft ground.

Spotted the same horse running the following saturday, over 7 furlongs and on soft ground. Thought to myself that it had to run well or the trainer would be in the brown stuff!

Had £1 e.w (which was a big bet for me at that time) and went home and watched it lead all the way and win at 50/1.

Happy Days!!
