General Betting

Gambling is supposed to be fair and transparent for all (so the Gambling Commission will tell you) but this is clearly NOT the case! How can it be, when on the 24th of November 2009,in the 4.47 race at Crayford, Trap 5 Paid Rouge was transmitted into independent betting offices by S.I.S at a show price of 4/1, then shortened in price to 3/1, yet the same greyhound was 20/1 on Betfair for solid money?
In the 2.37 Belle Vue on the 25th of November 2009, Trap 1 Blue Trilogy opened at a show of 7/2. When it was showing 3.1 ( a shade over 2/1) on Betfair, the price in the betting office collapsed from 7/2 to 7/4. It seemed that the exchange players had a certain knowledge of the impending result. How strange, I ask myself?
This is happening on every event, every day ,whether it be Greyhounds or Horseracing, and the independent bookmaker is being subject to these relayed prices that are false. The benefit the chain bookmakers have, is that they tend to restrict custom. They can afford to do this, as horse and greyhound racing has become secondary to them, yet this is the fabric of how the independent bookmakers do business!
As the independent bookmakers and their staff try to increase turnover in their shops, the false prices they are laying does not enable them to make any profit, and I mean NO PROFIT! The proprietors, managers and staff go home stressed and worried that they cant provide for their wives, husbands and children, and this leads to social issues within families!
What can we do? Well, if we continue to lay under-round and false prices we shall go to the wall- that is simple mathematics. The independent sector MUST form its own studio and control its own data (show prices), which they transmit. They are not permitted to do so, due to the 3rd party relay imposed by S.I.S. We can, of course, deliver pages via the internet to our offices bypassing S.I.S. However, if S.I.S was to engage in an evidence-based discussion with ALL of the independent sector, and not just the I.B.A. ( of whom many independent bookmakers are not members ), then perhaps we may all sleep better at night, and not just the industries elite.
All of the authorities and companies concerned, MUST stop hiding, and recognise that this industry has some very, very serious issues that will affect family life.
We are not looking for protectionism,but for the independent sector to continue trading,on a fair and level business platform.

People with opinions lay dogs/horses on Betfair at much bigger prices than bookmakers ever will.
Remember some very shrewd judges use Betfair. |

The bookmakers bags prices have for a long time been largely irrelevant. At Crayford for eg they bet to 130% plus and don't want to lay a bet. If one bookmaker takes a bet of any size at all the remainder change to match the amended price. What is stop you accomodating regulars, if they are the concern which sounds unlikely, and backing the selection yourself, through agents? If it's someone who only turns up to back dogs at 7/2 when they show 2/1 on Betfair, is he of any value to you ?

Baz = nail on head. Manage your business and you can lay 10/1 a 2/1 shot every day and make a margin. If anything it's harder for the big boys as you (should) know your punters and they can't.
