Hi : how can I match up the Timeform 1-2-3 to the runners on the racecard in my database?

2 sets of columns : one is all the days runners, the other is only those runners rated in the top 3. Obviously they do not correlate side by side so how do I avoid having to enter it all manually?

Thanks in advance

Thanks .. i dont think that would be it

To clarify better ..
In a 6 runner race how to sort columns for Timeform 1-2-3, or ATR Speed ratings which only list the top 3.

A B C
Bob Tisdall Desert Orchid 1
Docklands Express Pegwell Bay 2
Desert Orchid Yahoo 3
Nortons Coin
Pegwell Bay
Yahoo

Obviously I cant sort alpahabetically or by racecard number which I could where there is a rating for each horse in the race

I really really hope this comes out proprerly when I press Post

thanks, i'll check out the site

its not really a horse racing query, its an excel sort query and i'm sure someone on the forum knows how to do it!

Specifically it is a MATCH function query

The answer is =match(a1,$b$1:$b$6,0)...then do some copy and paste to sort out the non-matches

Thanks starfish, you're an absolute star(fish)

Perhaps Find function or Search function might be better. Less likely to find the nearest number if the sought for number is not available.
