The win against Fulham was a massive fluke result, we're not playing well at all.

I'm fairly confident they will win in an canter, although Maddison will be a miss. Quite surprising he is on the subs bench, which sort of suggests he must be fit.

Forwards have it in them, as they ain't usually great tacklers.

Seen a few over the years, done a few too
in my day, as a striker.

Now they are expected to pressure defenders..
make challenges... See the ball... Go for it.

I'd agree he's not a dirty player, and its
just a consequence of strikers going for the ball.

Bit harsh Susq Shocked  Don't forget the toffees were also on last Thursday in the cup beating the toon 3-1 Grin.

They do create a fair few chances, a top class CF would score a hatful for them.

The squad is very small and light on defensive cover, as well as only having ONE striker. The team that started tonight cost a total of roughly one and a half Bradley Barcolas - food for thought .
Report tobermory • November 2, 2026 10:43 PM GMT
how do you end up with one - not very good - striker with PL TV revenue and 50,000+ crowds Confused

Not seen as an attractive proposition when compared to the "top" clubs unfortunately.  And leaving transfer dealings until the last minute doesn't help, especially when they fall through like Balogun Cry. Mind you he can't even get in to the Monaco starting line up at the moment Shocked

Barry does miss a few chances for sure but the lad never hides and does a lot of work up front. The fans love a trier and at least he gets in the right positions Grin

He does have 8 goals in all comps so far this season, apparently only Haaland among the EPL players has scored more so he ain't doing too bad.

Yes String, he does miss some sitters (i call him Barn Door Barry Grin) but he gets in the right place to miss 'em, he is at least putting some away this season and has a lot on his shoulders being the only senior striker we have available.

Seven Englishmen in the starting line up again, in marked contrast to our local rivals Cool

Two tough trips to the West Midlands for the Lions this week, points needed to stay in touch with the play off picture.

Pretty sure I've never watched an entire Everton game (besides when they play Spurs) in my entire life. They were never exactly renowned for playing silky and attacking football. Sorry Dixie. Blush

A blinkered (and incorrect) view Sofa,

"The School of Science" (or "The School of Soccer Science") is a famous nickname and historical identity associated with Everton F.C.
• Origin of the Nickname: The term dates back to the 1920s and 1930s to describe Everton’s stylish, technically gifted, and scientific approach to playing football. It has been revived at various points in the club's history—most notably under managers like Harry Catterick in the 1960s and Roberto Martínez in the 2010s—when the team played attractive, fluid attacking football.
• The Definitive Book: It is also the title of Everton: The School of Science by James Corbett, a widely acclaimed and comprehensive history book chronicling the club's journey.

The 1980s team that won two league titles were pretty easy on the eye too.
Report DixieDean60 • November 3, 2026 2:20 AM GMT
I forgot the late 70s team as well, which finished 3rd in Div One in 1978 and were top scorers in the league, playing a fantastic brand of attacking football with Dave Thomas on the wing having an almost telepathic connection with Bob Latchford who scored 30 league goals.

they'd have to hold a seance to bring good old Harry back String Laugh Cracking character he was, proper old school player.

DM can get his sides playing decent stuff sofa but obviously he does have a reputation for safety first.

There have been times when he has had the players to be more expansive and has been reluctant to do so but in general he just makes best use of the squad he has.

I imagine there are plenty of Hammers fans around who wished he had stayed at their club Grin
