Betting-wise this forum could be replaced by a WhatsApp group.
Just create a group. Have yourself and a trusted other as the Admins.
Then invite selected people to join.
The only drawback is ATM members can see each other's phone numbers.
WhatsApp are supposed to be introducing Usernames which would anonymise users but as yet they are not there yet.
I'm guessing because of the phone number thing a lot of people would be reluctant to join a big group but it could work with a small group of friends.

ive been on the forum for over 20 years and now im retired its been an important part of what i do and gives me a lot of satisfaction. maybe we can get them to change their minds.
i think a lot of people will leave betfair if they go ahead with this.
id also like to know why they have made this decision as no justification has been forthcoming so far.

There is no justification to substantiate their reasons. Apart from the odd idiot and flare up it is not toxic. There is a cost though, to maintain and supervise the platform and thats why they've done it. Massive shame because it is not the same as social media outlets, you have to have a betfair account to begin with, which makes us all gamblers.
This forum is from the 1990s. That's why it has 10 users.
How long until they give the exchange the elbow? On the markets I play liquidity has fallen off a cliff.
Prediction mkts seem to be quite vogue, so although not an exact like for like I'd be surprised..

A sad day. When they closed chit chat 6 years ago it was the beginning of the end, the only surprise is that it has taken so long. If there is another football discussion platform we can use I would be happy to sign on, any ideas?

This is very SAD! This news will further enhance the spiral decline of horseracing UK. This news will also drive away the recreational old-timers of horseracing like myself, and many others who've been entertained and enriched by the exchange of views on horseracing, and other topics.
I do not do social media or any other forms of communication within the horseracing community. This news will only quicken the total exit of genuine recreational punters and loyal supporters like myself from horseracing.
The above will also mean a definitive reduction in placing bets esp in horseracing.

A crying shame. Been on the forum in some guise or other since early 2000s and remember the halcyon days, especially greyhound forum. The demise of chit chat was the beginning of the end and even though it's nowhere near as busy as it used to be, I still enjoy it and will miss it.

In my experience Reddit is a bit of a jungle.
IMHO a cheap little forum that allows banter but has a No Strikes policy to abuse and libel would work better. It'd require some admin but that could be shared between 3 or 4 people.

I've met numerous people from here at various horse and greyhound tracks. Literally to a man, everyone has been a pleasure to meet up with.

If there was no corruption there would be no forum as betting sites would not exist hth
The best thing would be for the Government to close all online gambling as they are not playing fair so close the coooonts down.
Abba had brought the game into disrepute and the world is watching. I'm certain that's why this forum is closing down.

I totally agree with the SNC post.
I don't post on here often, but I do look in. Occasionally someone posts something worth reading, and it's good for the interaction of the serious bettors. But , and I've said this before, most of those whose views WOULD be worth the read, I suspect, have better things to do with their time.
Fingers crossed, someone will start their own forum, wouldn't be the first, and I for one, would be interested in having a look.
Would be good to have a forum I think, but as Sir Norbert says, without the d'heads.

To be fair I think Reged was taken aback and maybe overwhelmed at the response to his site, he's already been working on it, yesterday it only had TALKING POINTS with every subject in that one category, now it's already beginning to look more like here with Horse Racing, Football and Competitions all separated out.
