Who wants to be a millionaire

She lost and left with 64 k apparently and laughing mmmm ffs

Is everything corrupt or crooked in your world abba ?

Not in my world in tv world

Ill be up tomorrow to do an honest days work that s the difference.

well you think every football team/match is corrupt (unless you win your bet of course).

Now you think tv quiz shows are crooked too.

It's not a healthy mindset to have imo.

Abba, that girl was giggling like an idiot all the way through the show
Gave some good answers, then basically guessed for going from 250k to 500k...ie win 250k more or lose 168k...and lost, and giggled even more!
I got the impression she wasn't hard up
Oh well, the winner takes it all, it's only money, money, money

Must be the split second the racket makes contact with the dead budgie, then an immediate deceleration as the friction from the air effects it, I thought Ice hockey puck too.

You need contestants to take a chance to win big money Reg.

She obviously knew that a tennis ball was not the answer, so it was a 1 in 3 dig and with table tennis ball being unlikely to be correct the odds were probably worth playing.  I think most of us would have gone for the answer she gave (ice hockey puck) as it seemed logical. And of course it helped that she knew she had £64k guaranteed.

Our non league footy bets are looking a bit vulnerable now,  Maidstone are still top but now that Ebbsfleet have sorted out their off pitch issues they are flying and look different class at the moment and if they win their games in hand will go clear. Hereford still there in NLN but have had a couple of below par games so will need to pick up again to continue their challenge.  Boreham Wood however are almost looking bankers in the National League, 11 wins out of 13, some doing.

Duffy, i would have thought ice hockey puck as well but I'd seen the question before somewhere so I knew the answer...about twice as fast as the other answers as well, if I'm not mistaken

The table tennis ball and ice hockey puck top speeds are very similar -about 105 mph which is a surprise.

Apparently the fastest serve recorded in Tennis is 163 mph.

As Duffy says the shuttlecock deceleration is almost instantaneous after being struck which is probably what would have thrown most people answering the question.
Apparently a speed of 351 mph was recorded in some Japanese test facility

I thought she was brave to have a go. Like her I didn't think it was a tennis ball (although I have no idea what its maximum speed leaving the racket might be). There was no way it could be the table tennis ball as it would surely break if hit hard enough to go at that speed. I might have gone for the ice hockey puck, although I do know a shuttlecock travels very fast when smashed from my playing days. Is that the biggest loss ever on WwtbaM?

just checking the dates, surprised you all. only THOUGHT you new the answer its a 3rd repeat of the same episode

Well if none on here watched the show when first broadcast 1tp then the fact it's a repeat is pretty meaningless.
And i very much doubt its been repeated 3 times as you state, the first showing was only in May of this year.

Storm - no it's not the actual biggest loss on WWTBAM - there were two guys back in the early days who lost £218k by getting the £250k question wrong.
But the biggest loss so far was only last year when a young guy got up to £500k and went for the million but got it wrong
He had set his safety net at £125k though , so not the end of the world but still a whopping £375k loss.
The actual question was not that difficult if you know literature , considering it was for a million, i could discount two choices immediately. He used two lifelines on it as well !

which of these words, each coined by famous writers, was derived from the title of a fairy tale about three princes ?

a) Pandemonium b) Serendipity c) Utopia  d) Yahoo

There was a similar question before which has the fastest speed ? the answer was the shuttlecock .

Duffy has correct explanation, travels that speed only a very short period of time after leaving raquet.

No way any of the others could move that quick, you'd have to be the incredible hulk to make a puck move 260 MPH!

Good trick option though - because of the natural thought of 'slippy ice' which really only reduces some friction.

Come to think of it I now remember Dr.David Banner getting pi55ed off one time whilst he was playing Badmington in an episode, I think the thought of another shirt and trousers going for a burton resulted in him giving it one almighty whack, must have been the 260mph record, probably explained why Norris Mcwhirter was a guest appearance in that episode too.

If you are watching a game, It's a lot harder to follow the path of an ice hockey puck when struck compared to the other three options.
This is why most would lean towards the puck travelling quickest. When shots come in they often leave the ice.

lol duffy, yep he'd have done it with all of them

I think the puck viewing thing is often the viewpoint too - it's also flamin hard to see the tennis ball when watching side on live. But the small puck I guess is hard to see yes.

lets put it this way DIXIE if it was the million £ i would have went for it and if i had phone a friend left ,i,d have done what the american fella did,and phone the mrs up to tell her i was about to win a million £ ,it was a repeat, and the daily mail full of comments about her laughing and must be small change to her

itp - apparently she is a project manager at Goldman Sachs so i doubt she has trouble finding a shilling for the meter

Still a fair whack to lose though. I think she giggles like that all the time, her dad (phone a friend) intimated as much, must get on his nerves

would of went

was a repeat  , not sure how anyone would have thought Shuttle **** , nor  table tennis ,that left Tennis or Ice hockey , Brains done , Jeremy thought it was Ice hockey himself

Should vet people before letting them be contestants, no one with over half a Million in the bank or on Salaries over 250k should be let on, it would rule me out but it would be fairer to those more in need, no fun watching a millionaire win another million on a game show........

I believe in the history of the show there have been just seven winners of the top prize, i doubt any of them were millionaires beforehand.

That probably eliminates all the football forum.. except for abba, I'm guessing.

they need wealthy people to take part as theres far more chance of them risking big £ to win bigger £,s, the less you have the more tempted you are/risk averse by £16,32,64,000

Need a few quid to get onthe show via the phone lines some winners have spent thousands in order to appear

hologon - They haven't done the phone lines for years, it's been form filling applications on the website like all other quiz shows.

Some people did indeed rack up big phone bills in the early days of the show, i believe it was a premium rate line you had to call

Dixie thanks for the update I wasn't  aware it  had changed what I had read wad a few years  ago interview with winners well before Clarkson gig
Good luck to them all.

Judith Kepple had a few quid, came from a well to do family.

Who wants to be a millionaire but they're all millionaires already?

ive told this tale before but a lad in our cabin in steelworks ,got on DEAL OR NO DEAL and got to play,he told us he,d been on but wouldnt say how he got on,before it was aired,
we,d listened to him in cabin for 20 yrs about going to casino,s in blackpool, scarbrough, dragonora in boro, stockton, twice a yr to vegas and playing the tables, loads of bottle won 10,s of 1000,s etc,
and when show was aired he give all the same speil to edmonds and audience about 15 mins in banker offered him a few grand and he snapped his hand off
he got absolute  pelters 24/7 for yrs afterwards everywhere he went on steelworks, he,s the big i arnt, have you put your 5p round robin on today ,blah, blah

after 20 yrs of saying different 24/7 turns out

HE HADNT LOST MORE ON A PAIR OF 3,s

Yes the question itself was ridiculous, a shuttlecock, ice hockey puck or either of the others cannot travel for an hour, it's actually a question of instant acceleration, she was daft not to take the money a bit caught up in the headlights of 15 mins of fame i thought.

stewarts - it is most unlikely that anyone is going to win the jackpot (or indeed get near it) by actually knowing all of the answers for definite.
All of the previous big winners had chanced their arm on at least one question.

At some point you will have to take a punt. She had narrowed the options down somewhat (at least in her own mind) and given she already had £64k guaranteed she thought it was worth risking. She also took a bit of time before going for it, so wasn't simply reckless.

By the way i thought it was shuttlecock as you smash it so hard over head and its small.
