He has definitely improved a lot as a player over the last few years. He made the correct decision turning down West Am and heading to La Liga and also Champions League football.

He has very good hold up play and movement in the box/finishing. I'd say he'd have done well at WHU this time but much more upside for him in La Liga + CL experience. Mourinho gave him his debut at Spurs then loaned him out (rightly).
He tries hard which is a big plus.

Presume he must have been on a 3 year deal, so only one year left. Hence the seemingly low transfer fee, although AZ still doubled their outlay.
