If mcguire scores its not a goal because it becomes handball

That he's hit his shot off target it's not handball

Quirky laws
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- August 30, 2026 5:52 PM BST
If he scores it's handball

As his shot is off target it's not handball
Report Mr Spock August 30, 2026 5:53 PM BST
Its handball regardless of what happens.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- August 30, 2026 5:56 PM BST
Well it's not, because those are the laws of the game.

Not that I agree with the law, but that's why it's a goal.
Report sofaking August 30, 2026 5:57 PM BST
4-1. Man Utd are BACK.
Report Mr Spock August 30, 2026 6:07 PM BST
When did that particular law come in to force because its the first time I've seen it in 60 years of watching football.
Report mesmerised August 30, 2026 6:10 PM BST
The 0-1 lead was fun whilst it lasted.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- August 30, 2026 6:14 PM BST
July 2021,i think, which clarified law of year earlier.

It is a handball offence if a player:

    deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball;
touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player's body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised; or
    scores in the opponents' goal:
        - directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper; or
        - immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental.

Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence.
Report Mr Spock August 30, 2026 6:20 PM BST
Wasnt accidental as he put his arms up to block it, could have chested it if he wanted to. Again down to interpretation but most people would think it wasn't accidental imo. Would Ipswich have got the decision, I doubt it.
Report Coachbuster August 30, 2026 6:21 PM BST
does it ever stop raining in Manchester ?
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- August 30, 2026 6:24 PM BST
Well they ruled it accidental, a deliberate handball is a free kick to Ipswich, if he scores or not.

But that's a side issue to you not knowing the laws.
Report Mr Spock August 30, 2026 6:25 PM BST
Your such a clever ar$e arent you YHTL
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- August 30, 2026 6:29 PM BST
Not really, but you now know the law and it's application here.

No need to be so embarrassed
Report Mr Spock August 30, 2026 6:31 PM BST
I'm not, I dont know all the laws of the game and I doubt if everyone that bets on football does either. Easy to go to AI these days and find out....

Report duffy August 31, 2026 7:06 PM BST
It was deliberate handball because he purposely put his hand there, Kelly Cates said it doesn't count because he put his hands there to protect his chest, protect it from what ??

He purposely put his hands there, controlled the ball with his hands and then played the ball which contributed to the goal, if the law disagrees with that the law is clearly a nonsense.

Fully expecting a walk in the park for Arsenal tonight... imo.
