The very least United fans expect is that the team runs and runs. Tries and Tries.

We are Manchester United ffs.

No side should physically outplay us.

The players lacked passion, effort & pride.

Appointing an ex player permanently after a few decent games the previous season despite (or because of?) little top level experience? If only i could think of a big club that had done this before and it went Pete Tong......

Carrick ticks all the boxes that the board require ticking and is the ideal appointment.

1. Happy to be there.
2. Little or no real push back against the board.

I'd say the most important trait a manager has is simply man-management skills, above tactics.

Ferguson wasn't really a coach, he had other people always doing that job, his job was getting the best out of players, knowing their personalities and then how to pull their strings.

Carrick is just dull, like Ten Haag, I don't see how the players could sit in the dressing room and be inspired by him,  you need a Klopp type figure who'd have the players running through brick walls for him, running that bit harder for everything and fighting for every second ball.

I don't think he'll last the season with the group of players he has, no idea who'd be the next manager, who's really available that would fit the role.

Maybe Conte who's out of work.

Kind Regards.
Report Racingqueen • September 16, 2026 10:34 PM BST
Carrick is nowhere near as bad as Ten Hag ffs. ETH set that club back around a decade ffs. Antony for 90m Laugh

Carrick cant be blamed for this summers signings as it seems clear that power has now been taken away from the manager.

Some very good teams in the Premier League. TV money as levelled things out a lot. Take out the top two and bottom five or six and it is pretty much hit or miss from the rest. It will also be a long journey back to the top of the Prem.

It was Rashfords fault.

Howe is fav which on one point I find strange. Howe is notoriously power hungry and saw off 2 DOFs at Newcastle.

Im not sure he would accept being given players by Wilcox.

The problem at Utd is the ownership. They have no serious ambition and the players see this after the signings in the summer and are now downing tools. No serious club wanting to win a title sign Tielemans or Santos.

Someone who learned under Pep would be ideal but:-
1) they've all been snapped up by clubs who are where United used to be. Arsenal, Bayern, City.
2) it would likely mean getting an ex-city man, which the board are neurotic about, signing Alexis and Ronaldo just because their agents said City were interested.
3) the owners, including INEOS, don't have a medium to long-term plan, only a short-term one (keeping the spotlight off them) and generally don't have a clue. The are a decade away from being top again.

They were 11th in spending on transfers this summer with Ipswich and Hull ahead of them and the top sides spending double or more. That's where they've been since ETH spúnked the last of the big money, due to debt and FFP.

He has to play Maguire and Shaw as they are first choice when fit and can't be gotten rid of while under contract. Yoro has been a massive flop.

The team is only good with 1 game a week and no pressure because the 2nd string is woeful. He had to spend all his money on midfielders due to the loss of Casemiro and Ugarte. Mainoo is the only one they could sell to generate transfer profit for more spending but that's another midfielder who needs replacing and wouldn't go down well.

Bruno wouldn't get a game for any title challenging side imo. Not a good fit for a tactically disciplined side.
