The very least United fans expect is that the team runs and runs. Tries and Tries.

We are Manchester United ffs.

No side should physically outplay us.

The players lacked passion, effort & pride.

Appointing an ex player permanently after a few decent games the previous season despite (or because of?) little top level experience? If only i could think of a big club that had done this before and it went Pete Tong......

Carrick ticks all the boxes that the board require ticking and is the ideal appointment.

1. Happy to be there.
2. Little or no real push back against the board.

I'd say the most important trait a manager has is simply man-management skills, above tactics.

Ferguson wasn't really a coach, he had other people always doing that job, his job was getting the best out of players, knowing their personalities and then how to pull their strings.

Carrick is just dull, like Ten Haag, I don't see how the players could sit in the dressing room and be inspired by him,  you need a Klopp type figure who'd have the players running through brick walls for him, running that bit harder for everything and fighting for every second ball.

I don't think he'll last the season with the group of players he has, no idea who'd be the next manager, who's really available that would fit the role.

Maybe Conte who's out of work.

Kind Regards.

Carrick is nowhere near as bad as Ten Hag ffs. ETH set that club back around a decade ffs. Antony for 90m Laugh

Carrick cant be blamed for this summers signings as it seems clear that power has now been taken away from the manager.

Will be given to Christmas
Top 5 is his goal forget about the cups

Eddie Howe available
Conte wouldn’t work at united if they are looking to be a regular CL club given his previous

This summer's transfer window was an absolute disaster.

No proven top top manager would touch United with a barge pole.
Report 1st time poster September 17, 2026 9:11 AM BST
previous managers took the pain / flack for ousting likes of rash, maguire, mainoo who utd arnt winning the title with and carricks brought them all back in
