The former Aston Villa, Arsenal and Man Utd goalkeeper has passed away at the age of 78.
A very fine keeper, best known for his Villa days as he was ever present in their 1981 first division title triumph.
He actually won two European Cup winners medals but only played a total of 9 minutes in the those finals ! He was on the bench for Utd when they won in 1968 and then in 1982, having played every game for Villa on the way , he had to be subbed due to injury after just 9 minutes in the final against Bayern Munich in Rotterdam . Villa of course won that game 1-0, i was there with several mates and we were mystified when Jimmy trotted off so early in the game to be replaced by a young lad called Nigel Spink who none of us had heard of. We feared the worst but Nigel had a blinder and was instrumental in Villa winning the trophy.

a brilliant goalkeeper in era where britain had a few. One of my favourite quiz questions, which englishman won 2 european cup winners medals with 2 english clubs. RIP Jimmy.
