Well yeah, that's a given though.

We had 90% in 99 and same today, but it was cloudy so not a glimpse.

If you can remember the 1999 eclipse........ you haven't been drinking enough!
Report s.kenbo August 12, 2026 8:03 PM BST
I wasn’t watching but I looked through the window a few times. It went a little bit dark but I didn’t see anything that could resemble an eclipse.

If you want to see an eclipse then there's a good'un next year

2 August 2027 (Total Eclipse): This will be the headline eclipse of the decade, featuring the longest totality visible from land since 1991. The path of totality will sweep across southern Spain, North Africa (including Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt), and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Somalia). Luxor, Egypt will experience a massive 6 minutes and 22 seconds of darkness over its ancient archaeological landmarks.

1999 was rubbish in London, sky was already full of dark clouds before it came so it didn't really look much different.
Report Aspro August 13, 2026 8:48 AM BST
I thought it was OK myself. Noticeably darkened before brightening up again and the birds were clearly confused by it all. Didn't watch it directly, I just watched the garden shadows. Still interesting though.

I think if you were on the eastern side of England there really wasn't much to see. Here in Sheffield at our bowls club people were saying” When is the eclipse ? “ right up to it going dark as our match finished.
BBC hype again I am afraid.
Report 1st time poster August 13, 2026 11:12 AM BST
not buying thi wildlife getting confued if it were true, they get confused evertime we got darkened clouds and big storms coming in,you can go for hr with it far darker than it was last night
Report Emitdeb August 13, 2026 3:00 PM BST
Underwhelmed here, was expecting more darkness.. Still fascinating..
I had a welders mask glass, which worked ok... Those plastic / paper glasses seemed to work better though..
Lots of people with colanders and cardboard boxes..
