Asking now why Tuchel didnt take his best squad, I recall Tuchel saying he is picking the best team and not individuals. Clearly had a dislike to Palmer and Foden.

Really poor all season ?  Palmer scored as many goals as Madueke and Eze combined in the EPL last season despite missing a third of the campaign through injury.
In fact only Rogers of the EPL midfielders in the squad scored as many goals as he did and he played 11 games more than Palmer.

Foden's stats also were better than most of the midfielders in the squad and he finished the season better than he started.

It's fine to say they were both below their previous high standards, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't have been picked as they were still better than some of those who were on the plane imo.

Half of Palmer's goals were penalties, but it's not just about isolating statistics it's about the whole picture, his general level of performances were poor and was no where near his best. Moreover he looked tired and was being managed throughout a lot of the season, with even Maresca being told by the medical officer when he had to be subbed. Madueke was on the plane purely for pace on the wing which seemed to be Tuchel's gameplan, fast winger on the left in Gordon or Rashford, fast winger on the right with either Madueke or Saka. Madueke not good enough for Arsenal or England in general but at least him and Eze were coming in with more confidence and momentum having won the title with Arsenal.

Fodens gametime reduced drastically from January and him and Palmer play in a position occupied by other form players such as Rogers.

Henderson was only really brought along because Tuchel seemed to really value his impact on the squad, wanted some senior figures to help set the tone, maintain standards and not let any of the younger players take any kind of liberties as he is a personality that commands respect, when I heard him give that press conference speech at Ajax that's when I realised why Klopp made him captain. Barely playing Mainoo, Toney and Watkins were strange decisions, Kane looked liked he needed to be take off in games with 20 minutes to go.

There should have been room in the squad for at least one of Palmer or Foden. Where was our creative spark ?

Apart from Kane And Bellingham, England carried minimal threat with only two others netting one each.

It's very hard for Rogers to score goals when he never gets on the pitch. Same for Watkins, Kane is great for 60 minutes, but he needs swapping after that.

It was clear that Rice/Anderson and Jude would be first choice. Rodgers looked like he was in for a shout for Jude's spot for a while but prob not in reality. But it was clear that it was those 3 types in a 3 man midfield. Palmer and Foden are not a replacement for any of those profiles and had poor seasons and didn't do much when they got a chance under Tuchel.

Madueke is an awful player but the manager wanted pacy wide attackers so you can see why he was brought. Eze is a bit baffling but I suppose he prob did well under Tuchel. Can sort of see why he brought Henderson as he is similar to Anderson/Rice. Don't think you should have 2 players like that in midfield but that's what he wanted, Southgate was the same.

that's the truth of it. we're the 3rd or 4th best team in the world, not shocking that we got to the semi final and lost to one of the other 3rd or 4th best teams in the world

Player take the blame but only secondary to the manager, it was his decision making that ultimately led to England being knocked out, when you play 5 at the back and bring on 3 defenders, that's the subliminal message you're sending to the rest of the team, we're here to defend, Messi moved over to the right because of this, to find more space as we had 3 central defenders. No point having an 'elite' manager, they don't have enough time with the players to do what Pep or Unai does. Just get an attacking manager who will drop players who go into their shell when under the cosh. IMO.
