There's eff all on worth watching now for free, if they start charging for it in 2034 it will go to the wall for sure.

apparently there's been 'month of speculation', this is the first I've heard of it
Coronation street would have to be on free to air as it's on a life support machine as it is, putting behind a pay wall would finish it off might mean a return of CL football to ITV, at least some of the less appealing games Kind Regards. |

Last thing Rugby needs is to go behind a paywall, sport dying enough as it is.

Coronation Street is a shadow of its former self, no great characters, the pub that used to be the hub of the show is an empty shell, it's a shocker, I watch classic Corrie in the afternoons instead, Emmerdale much the same story, don't watch Eastenders but caught a bit last week and it was an LGBTQ fest so that's gone the same way too by the looks of it.

I agree Mes about rugby union.
That was my sport growing up as a player and supporter of Harlequins & London Irish. I rarely can be bothered to watch it now, it is not the sport it was at all. |

The only Rugby I watch now is international Rugby, and that's not often.
It wasn't just the digital streaming era and the growth of social and mass media that helped these Soap operas move into decline, it started even before that when they they opted for quantity over quality, Eastenders and Coronation street, as miserable as Eastenders could be, was box office TV back in the day where you were waiting for the next episode, then Eastenders went from 2 times a week, to 3 to 4, Coronation Street did the same thing, nobody but hard core fans is keeping up with that especially in a day and age where content at your fingertips is saturated. I would imagine as the older more loyal fans who make up the bulk of the remaining viewership, die off, the Soaps will follow them to the grave. Neighbours despite resuscitation attempts, already a gonner and that once had over 20 mil just to watch a wedding. They were great of their time but now they're just very outdated. BBC and ITV would both be better off binning them off today and just pump the money they cost to produce, into keeping whatever live sport they have left. Kind Regards. |
