Perhaps I'm being pedantic but here are three common things said (please add others you can think of):

'He knew what he wanted to do'

'Denied by the post/crossbar'

'That's the last thing they wanted' ( following a goal against them)

'The goalkeeper just about saved it' (following a save that he made, just)

Something at least that never bothers me, pundits, commentators presenters, racing or football, I see how it really winds many up though, don't get it myself, some I prefer more than others of course but nothing that induces me to foam at the mouth.

I actually like Lucy WardScared

One that I find rather irritating is either from the main commentator, or co-commentator, when they state with some self-surety of being a judge 'referee's had a good game...'

This I find usually means the referee has done naff all (!), failed to make bookings when needed, and let plenty fouls go unpunished. But apparently the comms often like to state this as 'had a good game' as though they understand referee roles at all!

"Opened his body up" ("and took a shot" etc) is one I hear a lot of and I have no idea what the hell it means.

shearer got to hit the target , NO,NO,NO,No,NO
any idiot can hit the target your trying to score if that means missing the target by aiming for the corners, so be it,
longest truisim in football if you afraid of missing you wont score your fair share

Any time a commentator refers to the England team as 'The three lions', "And The Three Lions are through to play Mexico!"

I have never in my life heard any normal person say "Did you see the 3 lions game last night?"
