Watched them twice, and they play some attractive football, but they have only scored two goals. Is that their big problem?

in the qualifiers they won 8 out of 8 scoring 22 and conceding just 2. pretty good but not the same level of course.
i shoved a few quis  on them at 65 ante post. they are now 36 on here

Why are they as big as 50/1? They were a match for Brazil who are around 14/1. Looking at their results over the last few years they have hardly lost a game, but haven't actually played any of the supposed big guns. I have watched more of their games than other teams, and to me they look a decent outfit.

i agree netherlands is a tough one though- should be a great game

Only just watched the highlights, and if they are a true reflection, then they deserved their win. I think the worry as I suggested is their finishing. At least they are creating the chances. Now 22/1. I didn't take the 50/1, but did back them at 7/5 to qualify last night.

I'm on them antepost at 46, traded back (too early) for a nice green. I don't think they have enough to win it but there aren't many sides that will trouble them (France and Argentina the obv ones for me). I've been watching them since after the AFCON and their only weakness is they don't score enough goals. They usually bully their opponents (they did it to Norway pre-tournament, did it to Brazil for large parts of the game, and they did it to Holland) but they don't kill off the game when they're in control, so end up with too many drawn games - and that's not a recipe for winning a WC.

They are 4/5 to beat Canada in 90 which seems pretty generous, but that goalscoring issue perhaps allows bookmakers to take a chance? They have a very good team spirit. It's a long time ago, but I can remember Greece doing quite well off the back of that, and you would think Morocco have a better team than they did. They came back twice against Haiti, and again last night. I like that sort of never say die attitude. I haven't seen enough of the other teams to know how good or bad they are. My suspicion is that the general standard is not that high. Simply having a lot of players who play at a high level doesn't make you a great team. We see that time and again with England. A win against Canada will presumably, see a quarter-final against France.
Report mesmerised June 30, 2026 10:15 AM BST
I don't think you can give them that much credit for a never say die attitude because they came back against the mighty Haiti, they were never exactly going to roll over for them where they. Coming back twice against a top ranked nation you could say that.

They've got a lay up against Canada, but then France quarters, Spain semi's, they're not at that level.

Kind Regards.

What is a top ranked nation? One that looks good until it disappoints? There is a big difference between being a top ranked nation when the general standard is high, rather than when that standard is low. Is there a great team out there, I doubt it.

I am not suggesting that Haiti are a great team, but plenty of similar teams have got reasonable results and pushed better opposition. The gulf that once existed - where a team could just rack up an easy 8-0 - isn't there anymore. Teams have a basic organisation, and plenty struggle to overcome that. So I am happy to give them plenty of credit.

They don't often play the supposed big teams so there is plenty of guesswork in those match-ups. Last time they reached a semi-final, and that included seeing off the mighty Spain. Yes, they eventually lost to France, but maybe they have improved more since then? It's certainly no given that they couldn't beat those sides, at least it shouldn't be.
Report mesmerised June 30, 2026 11:22 AM BST
They are a good team, you just can't give much credit to a team for having a never say die attitude when the opposition is significantly weaker than them in Haiti. They scraped past Spain on penalties after having about 20% of the ball, 700 less passes and generally defending for their lives. They will brush Canada aside before losing to the French. There will be no surprise winner at this World Cup, it'll come from the typical pre-tournament faves as usual, your Argentina, France, Spain, England or Brazil.

On another night Morocco could easily had a couple of goals last night.
Wouldn't write 'em off against Brazil or Spain & the way we've played
over all so far,Us.Deserved to go through last night.
Report differentdrum June 30, 2026 12:31 PM BST
Meaningless to suggest Spain had loads more passes. That's what the do. Many of them are a few yards of nothing. Just emphasises how ineffective they were. The bottom line was they weren't good to score.

You have put up England and Brazil. Morocco created big problems for Brazil in the Group game. Better finishing and they could easily have won that match. I would fancy Morocco any day of the week against England, who have been dire, but lucky with the draw.

I would also take a team's never say die attitude - it helps when you are not used to losing - over a group of individuals who turn up every now and again. I think it's that lack of finishing prowess that might hold them back rather than the quality of opposition.
Report lurka June 30, 2026 12:40 PM BST
They have improved a lot since the last WC in terms of keeping the ball but are still light on goals. But France look better too and they won't be playing Spain Brazil etc unless they get past them in all likelihood. France got a goal after 5 mins last time and sat back and played on the counter, perfect set up for them and the opposite for Morocco. Might have been different otherwise and I wouldn't fancy anyone other than France and the Argies against them. Their keeper is very good in shootouts too, prob the best out there.

they were unlucky not to score a Couple last Night , A team to avoid imo

DD.

Brazil are easing their way into the tournament.
You are trying to give Morocco huge credit for not lying down against Haiti, turn it in Laugh
Report mesmerised June 30, 2026 12:54 PM BST
Morocco simply do not have enough quality with their team to win this World Cup, they will be undone by the first top team they face, not Holland who practically nobody had anywhere near faves, but most likely by France.

Thought they showed enough of Everything last night I favoured Holland ,MOROCCO DESERVED WINNERS SHAME IT HAD TO TO PENS

As soon as  Holland Scored I bailed out .

You are the one who keeps banging on about Haiti which I actually coupled with last night. Now for some strange reason you feel it is worth throwing in an emoji.

You actually contradict yourself in attempting to belittle the contribution of attitude to results by mentioning they 'defended for their lives' when beating Spain.

I don't claim to be a football expert, and I haven't said Morocco are going win, but there appears a whiff of arrogance in just dismissing Morocco's chances. It isn't a given that they are worse than the obvious teams you have suggested.
Report mesmerised June 30, 2026 1:42 PM BST
eh? I didn't mention Haiti last night, what are you talking about.

It's a simple point, you can't try to fatten the argument for Morocco by drawing attention to the fact that they didn't give up against a pub nation like Haiti who most people couldn't point out on a map, they are a footballing minnows as far as minnows go. 'Never say die' against Haiti is one of the most laughable things I've ever read on hereLaugh

I heard from one commentator in the Dutch game, can't recall who, who was saying how Morocco were reaping the benefits of their investment in youth and infrastructure.  So I decided to look at the team.  Of the 16 starters 5 were born in France, 4 were born in Spain (including their 3 best players), 2 In the Netherlands, ditto Belgium, 1 in Canada and only 2 in Morocco
Report CLYDEBANK29 July 1, 2026 2:23 PM BST
Egypt by comparison all 16 to feature v Belgium, born in Egypt
Report CLYDEBANK29 July 1, 2026 2:33 PM BST
South Africa 15/15 born in South Africa Algeria 4/16 DR Congo 3/16.

Bit of a difference ...  Egypt and South Africa everyone, Morocco Algeria and DC Congo, barely anyone

Surprisingly 9 of the 11 starters for France were born in France, only the keeper and Olise weren't.
