I think previous world cups have shown you need to peak in the later stages and not the group games.

England adept at set pieces. That aggressive domination or those few minutes early in the 2nd half won back the momentum that Croatia had at the end of the 1st half. That resulted in Bellingham's goal, it almost got England another during that period.
Yes, that defence!! More positives than negatives though. |

We're England, we're gonna score one more than you.

We learned that English strikers are much more effective if they play outside of the Premier League. 4 goals in a game is a lot for England but none of the three who scored play club football in GB. Is it because English clubs don't buy the right domestic strikers or because foreign clubs see their potential? Kane could have gone anywhere for the right price of course but nobody here wanted Rashford. Hard to name an English qualified Prem. league striker who might score.

We learned that Tuchel wants to turn the games into helter skelter EPL games, basically going from one extreme of the drab performances we normally see from England to the other extreme of all out going for it type play.
As admirable as that may be we probably need some middle ground type nuance in there somewhere as the better technical sides won't get over-run as easily as the Croats did in the second half last night, the better sides will play the ball around and through us. |
