But what he says makes perfect sense imo.
l have often thought that managers dither for too long, when it comes to substitutions.
At half-time, like Owen says, throw on those fresh legs and go for it.
Would any manager dare though?

Something struck me last season. But given the number of subs allowed, surely weren't not far from keeping an elite player or two on the bench, telling the first eleven to work the oppo hard and then bring them on against tired legs. Feels a bit like the "first eleven and then start replacing tired legs" model is getting a bit outdated.

eg Kane tonight seems a perfect chance for this. He's not a 90 minute player any more and Croatia have a few older players too. Maybe start Gordon as a nine, tell him to make sure he works them hard and then bring Kane on at ht.
