The concept isn't outdated, it's just that you've got to be exceptional to play it, passing and moving cutting even the most stubborn of defences open is the best football to watch, the only problem is that only two sides in generations have been able to do it, Spain circa 2010 and Barca circa 2010.

Playing possession stuff when you don't move it quickly enough becomes the worst football, visually to witness.

Never see them , switch on at kick off , switch off at full time .

TBF let's give some credit for a world class defensive show there - many top sides could learn from the players, coaching and organisation that was in that defence.

They did beat Serbia 3-0 recently even if only a Friendly showed they had something there.

And Pep carried it on for years at Bayern when tika taka started to fade out, failed at Bayern, not 1 CL final let alone win, but steamrolled Bundesliga outspending the other 17 clubs on wages, 1 CL in 10 years at City also a failure whilst cooking the books. comparisons with the swiss match first up in 2010. ridiculous comparison. swiss were a decent side then, as now. what spain just served up was an absolute joke. cape verde should never have had the opportunity to defend so well but its a lot easier to defend against virtual statues. spain offered nothing of any note and that was reflected in a ridiculously low xG relative to who they were playing. there was no thrust, no drive, no pace, no urgency. which was just like the iraq friendly in what was a similar profile of match as they parked the bus as well.

the fact the coach made no tactical changes was baffling as well. tiki taka **** was not working everyone could see that.

for all the raving about the cape verde gk, he didn't make a save worth talking about. they were all either camera saves, powderpuff shots straight at him or in the case of the header, going wide anyway.

they certainly didn't work him very hard, but I would still give him credit for making the saves when he needed to.

if you mean he didnt make any mistakes des then that's fair enough. but what i saw bears no relation to the eulogising hes getting now. there wasnt one incredible save not even one. spain were that bad. some of the shots they took beggared belief. you would see better on a sunday league pitch. all were scuffed not hit properly and straight at the keeper. the one time spain did hit a decent shot it beat the keeper but not the woodwork and even that was another example of how bad spains finishing was
