Inspired by the incident in the first game last night. Never understood why this isn't a foul. You just barge someone over making no attempt to play the ball at all. What's the difference between doing that, and just tripping someone over, or mistiming a tackle? It produces exactly the same result.

The other one that I have never understood is the shielding a ball out of play which is never given as obstruction, but that's exactly what it is.

Perhaps someone can explain why both of these are considered legitimate practices?

Shoulder charge is a legal challenge, so long as
force is not excessive

Shielding a ball out, is annoying, but if you are able
to play ball, and in front of opponents you are deemed to be in
possession so opponents have to go round you

Both scenarios are clear free kicks in my opinion, and should be removed from game but I am not a referee.
What is great is the new directive from FIFA is pulling and pushing at corners before it is in play, because I didn’t see that last night.

Thats where the problem lies yhtl......excessive......someones interpretation of excessive can be different to someone elses imvho.

Shielding a ball out the park is not the same thing as shielding ball in attacking area.
Making deliberate  contact with a player to gain advantage isis a free kick regardless whether it is shoulder or the leg.

Thanks, glad I am not the only one. I am all for getting tackling back in the game, but this has got nothing to do with the ball. You are just playing the man, and if it's a free kick, you don't have to interpret whether it is excessive or not.

They are rules from days gone by, that have been retained.

I quite like shoulder charge rule, but shepherding out
of play is Shirley nearly obsolete, and ready for chop.
