I remember this but double checked .... When he played in the 2009 UEFA U-21 tournament he was the oldest player in the England squad and is now the final one to retire.  By then he'd already had 7 seasons in the PL.  It has been a remarkably long and successful club career.  He was in an age group where England had very few top class players, so little chance of International success

He played in the u-21 final that year but he wasn't the oldest player on the pitch.  That was the only player left yet to retire.

Stat going round, that next season will be the first for 70+ years
that there isn't a top-flight player, who hasn't been managed by Sir Bobby Robson.

Incidentally the oldest player on the pitch in that u-21 final, and now the only player left playing full time, is a certain Manuel Neuer

I looked up his Wiki page.
At school he was cross-country champion three years and district 100 metres champion two years.
That is some performance - cross country and sprinting - two very different events.

What a player.

Milner learnt to speak Spanish to better communicate with his teammates.
Now that also gets my respect.
